I actually had a dream last night about going to the moon, it was great, and we parachuted back onto earth :)

Cool 8)

I've had a lot of dreams ascending high into the sky to the outer reaches of the atmosphere and then freefalling.

the vid is real, it's part of the Excelsior Project, he was at about 31 kilometers (102,800 ft) high o_O

Actually it's two parts edited together, the jump and the surfer. Here's more info about the jump:

Thats extremely high. They should do tests to see what the maximum altitude is before you begin to burn in the atmosphere, and then they should drop someone right below that line. It would be the unbeatable record, unless someone comes up with some sort of shielding.

I'd be more worried to escape into the space at that altitude o_O

in fact: "During the descent, Kittinger experienced temperatures as low as −94 °F (−70 °C). In the free-fall stage, he reached a top speed of 988 km/h (614 mph)."
wikipedia ;)

Using a balloon you would never be able to escape earth's gravity. The highest a balloon can float is about 25 miles up. Space is considered to be 50-60 miles, and the point at which gravity does not have enough of an influence on you to pull you back to earth is after that point.

Why does a balloon float in the first place? Because the matter inside of it is lighter than the surrounding air, and at around 25 miles high, there is no longer enough air around the balloon and at that point the balloon is too heavy. Space is considered to be at 50-60 miles.

I'd imagine theoretically the only balloon that could make it into space would be a balloon with a vacuum in it, and that does not even make since.

Pathetic as it is, my main place of escape is either my bedroom or my basement.

The basement holds all the console game systems and a very nice TV and my room hold a couple hundred books, my laptop (which is the cheapest way to talk to my boyfriend in Australia xD) and my two handheld systems.

My secondary place of escape is an ice rick with hockey going on. ANY ice rink, ANY team, ANY level of skill.

My best place of escape is as far away from people as I can get. A wilderness canoe trip is ideal. Barring that, I'll go for a hike in the woods and go waaaay off the beaten path. I go camping every chance I get, and always take the walk-in wilderness sites.

Long car drives with no destination is a great way to escape too. Sometimes I'll just drive for days, when I have the time and money to do that.

All my escape places have no people in them save for myself.
