My thoughts exactly. If I really wanted to insult gay people, there is definitely better ways of doing it. People don't seem to have any understanding of context. Perhaps they should go back to playing Conquer's Bad Fur Day? The beginning discusses context sensitive buttons and such.... I dunno, just something random I thought of. I'd be willing to bet that most people use words in ways other then in the originally intended way.

Same thing as "that's ret*d/stupid/lame/dumb" etc...

I've always kind of liked those kinds of expressions, myself...giving inanimate objects, ideas, or situations human qualities which society frowns upon always amuses me =)

Words change their meaning. A generation ago, people were annoyed that "gay" had come to mean "homosexual". Now you're annoyed that it's used to mean something other than homosexual. There's just no satisfying people! :shrug:

I always use this phrase.

"Thats gay"
"Thats ret*d"
"You friggin nazi!"

Just some of my most definitely hated expressions.

I personally find it insulting that the word is used so flippantly when people who are gay have worked so hard to out themselves.
ret*d is reallyreallyreally insulting to me, as I was considered ret*d when I was a child, and was told to send me to an institution. I just think people could say so many other things to get the point across without insulting minorities.

It annoys me, though I will admit to using it once. Or something along the same lines.
These guys in my class were teasing a male friend, so I turned to them and asked 'What are you, gay or something?', since these are people who pride themselves on being able to date 'hot chicks'.

It also annoys me when people say 'That's ret*d', since (at my school anyway) it is generally refering to the Special Ed unit.

Both "that's gay" and "that's ret*d" both really offend me. I don't like the idea of making fun of either one.
