I am taking the term "idols" in the sense of this post as people on earth that I admire. These are usually thought of as entertainment or inventive people.
1. Robert Shaw----------late actor who portrayed Captain Quint in Jaws
2. Harry Traver----------late roller coaster designer/builder (legendary)
3. The Three Stooges---(ok I am cheating here, "three for the price of one")
So much of old humor is not funny anymore, but the Stooges
never seem to go out of date. (That is my opinion).
4. Robert Moog----------late inventor of the Moog synthesizer
5. Walt Disney-----------(they all seemed deceased don't they?) no description necessary
Walt kept amusement parks alive in the 1950s when they were dying.

And quite sexist too...Elizabeth Bathory had some interesting staff management skills....or maybe she's too small scale. I firmly believe she inspired Margaret Thatcher though..also fitting in quite well with the tone of the prior list but perhaps she was too easy going (and democratically elected ) to make the top 5?

You know? Queen Isabella doesn't get enough credit for her despotic genocidal reign. I guess it gets eclipsed by the whole "Columbus Discovering America" PR coup.

This isn't a critisism, but isn't there some irony in having a man who advocated detached cynisism, and a man advocating dedicated hope, both on your list?

I think its awesome! Yin and yang. We should all have lists like that! Plus some family and a totally inspirational musician. Best list here. (Although, I might substitute John Lennon for Bob Marley - just in terms of catalogue size.)
4.)Quanah Parker, who helped me find my identity as a Texan. Being a Texan means a lot to a Texan, and we all have our own Texas hero, patron, idol however you want to say it.
5.)Laura Pleasants, a very nice lady and talented musician in guitar, vocals, and songwriting.
