^ I wonder why they hate it too. Maybe its about their taste in music, I dont know. And to me DJ Bobo was known for years before the participation in ESC but probably got more known afterwards then.

I used to like ESC but I'm so sick of it. The music isn't good.

I don't like it because I'm not a fan of the music that gets aired in the competition (and I find watching a musical performance on television to be boring even if it's a kind of music that I enjoy). I used to quite like watching the scoring part of the program though, because I found it interesting to see where the votes went to.

I watched the contest. Most of it was crap but there were also a couple of surprisingly good songs.
The voting is a joke, though. Everybody knows it doesn't have anything to do with the music.

eurovision crappysong contest. meh.

still better than wars though

eurovision is what keeps peace and stability in europe, everyone knows this!

"invade poland sir?"
"WHAT!? We cant invade poland! think of eurovision! it would be incomplete!"
"oh... yes... you're right... "

BTW

who does poland give homie-points to?
all eastwards, or westwards as well?

yeah I'd say number one thing that guarantees peace is football. number two thing would also be football. but number three- the Eurovision :P just look at the alliances in both...

we don't usually take part because we're crap. our singers could only sing in Japanese karaoke bars, and not without having all customers leave in horror.

when we do take part though, we usually go for Czech Rep, Slovakia, Hungary and Ukraine.

no love for pоссия?

now that i think of it, i cant remember to have specifically seen poland, but then again, i havent watched it in years. i watched it now, cus it coincided with the night before national day and stuff. i was bored, while everyone else were out partying.

i love how spain seems to be loosing all grips on reality, and i suspect it has to do with spains decriminalization of cannabis :o
they werent too bizarre this year, but still. i love how you can tell the mindset of a population, by who they represent in eurovision:

russia: a crying woman
norway: some happy bouncy fiddle-boy

i couldnt help but notice that britain had some serious-ish contribution this year. this truly dissapointed me. what happened to britains happy bubble-gum spirit for eurovision?
i loved their airplane song, two-three years ago, where they stretched their arms out, and pretended to be airplanes!
yay!

i loved bosnia's stalinistic thing

and turkey never dissapoints B)
i still got "shake it up sekerim" stuck in my brain B)

I think it's quite obvious which countries really matter on the global music scene- Britain and Sweden. they have real music industry and produce quality music that sells worldwide. the Eurovision Song Contest is a chance for all the European countries with little to no music industry to be able to heal their musical inferiority complex a tiny little bit.

let's face it, nobody remembers those songs the minute the show is over. they don't get played in most radio stations and the CD single never reaches the top 10 outside it's country of origin (of course, there were a few exceptions, but that's the general rule).

and even if countries like the Baltic states, Ukraine, Turkey etc win every once in a while, it still doesn't change the fact that their music- in general - sucks, and nobody who is seriously interested in the subject would ever buy it.

i also have the impression many americans thinks the eurovision is some sort of talent-contest

its not, as anna-banana says, its about the music industry., each country promotes singers they been recently impressed by and believe in or trust from before. norway sent the same guy intot he contest several times in a row, back in the day

Image <---this guy

and didnt win once. we eventually learned that europe doesnt like him.

What's the point? Maybe 40 years ago it was all a bit of fun and everybody came up with something unique to represent their country.
Now it's all about politics. Very convenient that Russia won last year...don't you think?

V. true. It's very political.

Maybe I'm being a bit slow here though, but why do you think it was convenient for Russia to win last year as opposed to, say, the year before?

By the way, did any of you hear about Georgia's anti-Vladimir-Putin song that was disqualified for overly political content?
It was called "I don't wanna put in". Very subtle, don't you think?

I always watch Eurovision! I was shocked that this year my country (Britain) entered someone who can sing and then came 5th instead of last!
Germany's shiny trousers amused me.

However, nothing in Eurovision will be as fun as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX_rNEPIgc8
As for the Georgia controversy, they missed the controversy with that song (the link) in 2007 - When he says 'Laksha Tumbai' it sounds very much like 'Russia, goodbye' don't you think? Obviously Georgia should have distracted them with a glittery transvestite.

Cool that you bring on that specific version of the song. Its from the national final and a bit diffrent then the ESC version. I never heard Lasha Tumbai as "Russia Goodbye", interesting interpretion

why is it the UK doesnt enter a well known national band/singer,instead of newbies every time, like what other countries do? look at Lordi who had been going for years when they won it.

yeah I heard that Radiohead applied once and they've been REJECTED!! 8O

this could be reason enough for me not to ever watch the ESC again :P

Norway shouldn't have won this year.
