do you remember what happened to oprah winfrey when [back in 1988] she famously lost 60 pounds, and hauled her "fat" around in a little red wagon on her show? but she didn't have enough lean muscle mass to burn enough calories to stay that thin, so she gained it all back within months because
she didn't change her lifestyle into a consistently active one, which means
daily exercise for at least an
hour each day- exercise of an intensity which uses most muscles and causes elevated respiration/heart rate and profuse sweating. walking/jogging for a few city blocks unfortunately is insufficient for this purpose. cardio including running/vigorous biking, swimming and calisthenics, as well as muscle-building exercise are in order here. there is no substitute for muscle mass to burn those calories. yo-yo dieting, [repeated cycles of weight loss via diet alone alternating with repeated weight gain] is dangerous in that it has been found to
permanently ratchet-down metabolism [oprah's case] as well as lower HDL/raise LDL.
each person is different, and responds differently to different diets and exercise routines, so if one is obese [not merely overweight] one should consult with a
bariatric specialist, who specializes in disorders of metabolism/weight. short of outright obesity, overweight conditions not comorbid with a disease process should be handled with increased physical activity and reduced caloric intake, consistent with an active lifestyle change.
for what it's worth i too have struggled with my weight for most of my many decades on earth. i am preaching a converted-person's message hoping to find converts, and atone somewhat for my failures as a human being.
