I already know most of what I'm getting for Christmas. One of these was supposed to be my surprise but I saw it by accident while were wrapping gifts. Woops!

"Four Continents" playing cards.

"Night of the Living Dead" board game.

"The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" book set.

"The Golden Girls" behind the scenes book.

OK, I put back the $30 clothbound Tess since I already have the Penguin paperback, and in its place I got $160 of paperback classics because that makes total sense.

I might ask MR to give them to me since he asked for book ideas, but considering he already gifted me with orchestra seats to Les Mis, I think I should just pay for the books for myself.

What the hell. I deserve them after the year from hell I've had. They can be my retirement gift to myself.

These will officially complete my collections from my favourite authors and I might actually be finished buying books until the end of time.

Seriously, I mean that. I'm out of room anyway.

- Moths, Ouida
- Daniel Deronda, George Eliot
- Silas Marner, George Eliot
- Sentimental Education, Flaubert
- The Warden, Trollope
- Anna Karenina, Tolstoy
- Sylvia's Lovers, Elizabeth Gaskell
- The Tragic Muse, Henry James
- The Golden Bowl, Henry James
- Effi Briest, Theodor Fontane

I think I need to make a reading list like I did in 2021, and get back to reading full-time.
That's always the best therapy I can imagine.

They are expensive at our end these days. If I went back in time about 10 years they were cheap! Shall I keep a lookout for one? :D

I don't want much this year. At least not much that's within the realms of possibility.

I'd like a Toblerone, obviously.

Mainly I'd like some indication that next year is going to be better than this one has been. A little sunlight on the horizon. A little breathing space. That'd be nice.

But a Toblerone would do.

I think that the gift I'm most looking forward to is the "Night of the Living Dead" board game. 8)

I wonder which characer I will prefer playing as the most? :chin: I sorta like Barbara because in the 1990 remake she was portrayed as a more capable survivor and seeing her with a shotgun feels like a reference to this.

But I also felt sympathetic to Helen Cooper who had a controlling husband and an infected daughter whom she couldnt bring herself to abandon.

I get the feeling that Helen Cooper was the inspiration for the character Carol from "The Walking Dead".

I'm looking forward to roleplaying as a survivor in a classic zombie movie!

Speaking of cards, I'd kill for this high quality oracle deck which features classic artwork by John Waterhouse. I'm a big fan of his paintings and I would love to incorporate the images of his works into my own divination hobby.

I doubt I'll get this for Christmas though... perhaps next year I can ask my mom to order me this for my birthday or I can at least save enough money to order it myself... :chin:

I think if I were to assign my own catchwords to his images these are what I would choose for my top fav paintings:

"Lamia": Evil intent

Image

"Lamia and The Soldier": Danger and Temptation

Image

"Cleopatra": Power at a great cost.

Image

"The Mermaid": Vulnerability

Image

"The Magic Circle": Manifestation of ideas.

They're lovely.
Almost worth framing a few.

I was looking for WH tarot cards today.
The best I can find is Literary Witches oracle cards.
I already have those.
