I was wondering what drew you to WP? Do you know someone who is an aspie? Or do you think you might be one?

I thought I might have Asperger's about two years ago and asked my GP to be referred to someone who could assess me. I was told by a psychiatrist and then a psychologist that I don't have any autistic spectrum disorder. I think I share some of the sensory problems that people with autism have - i.e. over stimulation (visual in particular) and sometimes slow processing speed. Also, I have since been diagnosed with tic disorder. I have some issues with concentration which from what I've read most closely resembles inattentive ADD.

I bet if I went a psychologist right now, they couldn't figure it out until talking to me for a while. You know there is an option for have aspergers-undiagnosed...or I think I might have it.
Sorry for accusing you.

You didn't accuse him of anything, you just wondered why he was here, like me.

I can't believe that someone I know tried to sign me up for some lame and stupid TV show "to help me find my love". I hate TV, I hate the very idea of such TV shows and I can't stand cameras. Apparently someone thinks that I hadn't had enough of public humiliation so let's put me on TV!
It's either a very rude joke or the person who did that is just plain stupid. So now I'm trying to figure out who that person is. And what would be the best way to kill them.

Lucky! I've always wanted to be on tv! I would hate the make-up aspect of it, but it'd be really cool. Then again, I've always been a performer. I wonder if anyone could go on all the game shows....that's be the coolest thing ever. 8) What show is it?

Idk, I'm not good at telling over the internet.

My experience, which is still limited, is that is quite hard to tell over the internet too.

There are some people who are quite clearly auties or aspies, and others who are more difficult to assess. How a person is online is not really a good reflection of how they are in real life. For example there are posters here who are non-verbal in real life, and others who may come across as quite together and sorted, but are actually very incapacitated by Asperger's or other issues, such as myself.

Some game shows are alright but I couldn't go even on those because the very idea of a camera pointed at me freaks me out. But this is some sort of a matchmaking show! So it's like a date with a stranger with the cameras all around and irritating host and noisy audience. To me it sounds like a perfect cocktail for a major meltdown on live TV.
So no, that's not happening.
I just wonder who was that clever to try to sign me up. :?

Yea, people can be really confident on the internet and have friends to hang out with, and then be alone IRL too.

Tbh I don't really think I have it. I prefer to think of the traits I do have such as the sensory processing issues as 'minimal brain damage' as the old definition used to read. I can connect with people easily when I'm not depressed (such as now) and find it easy to empathise and sympathise and make eye contact and do all the 'NT' things. The reason why I'm here is more because I've deteriorated through depression to the point where I've lost my self esteem. No offense intended to anyone here but I'd much rather be out living life, ideally.

I switch back and forth. Though I was diagnosed when I was 13, I feel like I have grown out of a lot of things. Plus my mom always says that I can "overcome" it....since it isn't on official documents, I can never really make the claim that I have it. I can connect with people sometimes, and other times I feel like it is all artificial. I have learned to make eye contact from sign language, but that used to be a problem for me. The empathy and sympathy is something I've always had for animals, but for people it is harder, especially if I am related to them. Oh, :( sorry. ME TOO. That's why I can't wait to go to college, it's my last chance at life and I want to try my best for it to be amazing and such. May I ask, did something happen that caused you to become depressed, or just life? Oh, and sorry I talked about myself so much.... ....that's another aspie thing I'm working on.

See, I wouldn't mind a camera as long as the audience wasn't huge. But the freakiest thing is trying to sing in front of a big audience....once you do that, you know the definition of apprehensive. Ugh, that would maybe happen to me, but I wouldn't know that it counted as a meltdown and people would comment on it.

Haha. I don't mind at all that you're talking about yourself, keeps me entertained for the moment. :D But yeah I do that sometimes too as perhaps can be construed from the comment you have replied to. Also, if you can't claim you have it why do you claim that in your profile :? Nothing happened really, I just seemed to get that way when I was 13 and onwards up until the present day.

You should have seen me a few years ago, quite oblivious to even the basic social "rules".

Ok, I get worried that I talk too much about me and people get annoyed. Btw, don't be afraid to tell me if I am though. I can though, I was diagnosed when I was 13 at a real doctor, but my parents paid out-of-pocket so it wouldn't go on my medical records. I just feel like I have grown out of a lot of things. What happened at 13...seems like 7th grade is the evil grade for most people round here.

Oh I see. I didn't realise that you could get diagnosed and pay for it not to be on record. I imagine that might not be possible in the UK where I am located which is why I was confused. And yes, I think a lot of people grow out of a lot of issues they have when they were teenagers or sometimes just adapt to the those problems making them appear 'invisible'.
