Last night I watched a documentary on the Salem Witch Trials, and I found it really fascinating. I could even see it developing into a new special interest. So naturally I tried to share my newfound information with my mom this morning, but her reaction was negative. "So what did you take away from it? That hundreds of innocent people died?" she said.

I mentioned that a lot of people on the autistic spectrum are interested in tragic points in history, such as WWII or the Titanic. She replied that I'm only interested in the Salem Witch Trials because I'm in the mood for supernatural stuff because I've been excited about Tim Burton's upcoming movie Dark Shadows and Halloween's not far away.

Oh well, guess I'll have to find some other spooky event to study. I know I can obsess over whatever I want to regardless of what others think, but I really dislike upsetting my mom because she's my favorite person in the world. Besides, she's the one person in real life who actually cares about my special interests, so it seems counter-intuitive to become obsessed with something that she really doesn't want to hear about.

There are plenty of other supernatural things to become interested in; I just have to look harder... And make sure it doesn't involve a massive real-life tragedy.

Pushing people away because i don't know how to say yes and then hiding the fact that yes was even an option. Being constantly avoidant and being the type of person that is conscious and controlling of nearly everything i do and say so i'm not even able to hint at how unhappy i am. Never being able to let anyone in no matter how much i want it.
