I still remember those two days in 1893. March 13th and 14th. I had been watching a low develop down in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and move northward. The only thing about this storm, was how freakin' fast it was. The morning of the 13th, while the center was down in Carolina, the snow was already moving into my neck of the woods. I called Sam and asked if he was waiting for the snow. He said he was, and that the offices might shut down early. I asked him why, he told me that the storm was developing at a rapid pace; in fact, the Bayberry was reporting seas of 40 feet while it was cruising east of Jersey. After my phone call, I decided to head to Main street and take photographs of the snow, to be put in the Storm Album.

By late afternoon, it was apparent that the warm sector of the storm was moving in. Snow switched over to rain. As evening progressed, I decided that I wanted to drive out to the east end and see the erosion. The last large storm was back in December, and I witnessed the loss of three houses to the sea. That same storm hammered the interior of Peter State with a substantial snowfall. That evening, I went to the Bosun's locker on Main Street to have a bite to eat and a few beers. The wind had picked up and the trees roared. As I walked home, you couldn't hear yourself think, that's how loud the wind in the trees was. I wondered what my ex was doing at this point, but that's another story for another day. As I entered the house, I saw some snowflakes in the porchlight, they appeared "damaged" and rimey. The house shook that night because of the wind. I did something that I never would have done before: I drove to the west end a little after 1 AM.

Now, granted visibility was s**t and the wind was whipping up almost to the point where I pulled over to the side. When I arrived in Madaket, everything seemed to be okay, but the tide was almost spilling over onto Ames Avenue because the water had nowhere to go. I turned around and made it home by 2. I went to bed thinking that oh, the storm will be rain for the duration. I was wrong. When I awoke at six, I saw my windows were "plastered" with snow. I reckon town got about six inches. Obviously, the mainland got more. Now you know what happened here on the island during the second Storm of the Century of the 1890's.

I yawned and one of my earrings popped out. Most peculiar.

The OCD was right. I don't think I should ever resist the instrusive thoughts again by saying that they are just thoughts; I think that denying them and refusing the compulsions makes them come true.

Ackman, have you seen the movie, "Harold and Maude"? It's an older 1971 dark comedy with Ruth Gordon as Maude and Bud Cort as Harold. Something about Harold reminds me of you.

Also there is another one, "According to Greta" with Hilary Duff and Ellen Burnstyn that was made in 2009, have you seen this one too? Greta reminds me of you some as well.

Both movies are about young people who want to kill themselves. I recommend both of these movies to anyone who hasn't seen them.

oh i saw harold and maude when i was a little girl, i just loved it. awesome movie, i was 9 and i can still see some scenes from it ...really good.

So far no one has fed him yet, maybe he went back to the frat party.

I can't believe that I've been up for an hour and a half. Has it really been that long?

Yesterday for the first time in my life I made oxtail soup, or better put, a broth, for it's still a broth at the moment. Um, don't think I'll make one again for it's quite a bit of fuss, more work than making, let's say, a chicken broth and the outcome.. mmmm.. Well, the broth tastes okay, maybe my expectations were a tad too high.

Think I'll throw in some (soup) vegetables and yeah, have soup till the coming weekend..

yes i wrote that small verse after i saw your verse, and it was not fully polished.

i would change
"mountains are truthless
YET massive and ruthless
and they block the light of the day"

to
"mountains are truthless
AND massive and ruthless
and they block the light of the day"

thankyou for thinking of me to post the following verse, but i am afraid i do not understand it. i will say what i think of the lines.

Quote:
I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
was the jar's base "round" ? what is significant about it being on a hill? was it the highest hill in tennessee?

Quote:
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.
"hill" rhymes with "hill" i guess, but it is the same word.
was the wilderness untidy? did the jar attract untidy plants and animals to surround the hill? if so, why?

Quote:
The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.

the jar somehow tamed the wilderness? what was in the jar?

Quote:
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.
i can not fathom what this means sorry.

Quote:
It took dominion every where.
The jar was gray and bare.
so the jar took power everywhere, but the jar was gray and bare? so the jar was not made of glass? or maybe the jar was dirty. i do not understand.

Quote:
It did not give of bird or bush,
Like nothing else in Tennessee.

what does it mean to "give of bird", or "give of bush"?
and if it did not give of bird or bush UNLIKE anything else in tennessee, then does everything else in tennessee give of bird and bush?

i would be good if you could explain the meaning, but i guess this is a "got anything random to say" thread where speed and superficiality is of the essence, so a laborious dissemination of a verse will quickly be paved over by hundreds of ensuing posts.

thanks anyway. i appreciate your thought, but i am rather stupid when it comes to understanding external thoughts

I just took an anti-psychotic I haven't been on in two years; Abilify. I'm worried I'm losing what ever little sanity I have. My delusional fantasies are getting out of hand & ['m losing my grip. I have a few pills left & I cut it in half. Hopefully it will help me regain control so I can keep keep things in better check

I like the change you made, it flows better. Frankly most poetry is beyond me. I don't think the poem I posted by

Wallace Stevens means anything in particular, but is meant to evoke an image and that it's a comment on how

placing a man made object in the wilderness changes the whole environment. It's the kind of thing I understand on a

non verbal level. I just like the way it sounds mostly. I like the rhythm of it. I gave up on finding the meaning of things

unless it's clearly spelled out. The bit of Shakespeare from The Tempest I posted I think is sublime. I have a pull

towards things that change their nature over long periods of time. If I told someone I found decay interesting I would

get odd looks. That reminds me of the family vacation when I was a child. We were walking to see Ulysses S. Grant's

tomb and my sister made a comment about looking forward to seeing it. I said I would rather see Grant and

these two guys who were walking ahead of us slowly turned around and gave me a 8O look.

February, 1895 was perhaps the strangest month. The first of the month was absolutely mild. The high that day was a balmy 60 degrees. By the second and third, I could tell a storm was coming. On the fourth, I got my wish. It started as rain but it quickly changed over to snow. On the mainland, they received up to a foot in some places. The days afterward, were uneventful at least until the 19th, when we got yet another blizzard. Granted, we only received about six inches, but Philly got about 24" of beautiful powder. The Naval offices there were shut up tight and my friend was at home, doing god knows what since he hated that city. The rest of the month was pretty uneventful.

My foot and ankle are slowly feeling better. On the days that I don't work, I'll look for empties.
