It has no taste and a terrible texture.
Sometimes it's gluggy and gluey.

How is any of that appealing?

I love rice so maybe I can help. :) To me rice does indeed have a taste, especially fragrant jasmine rice. It tastes fragrant. It's slightly sweet, with a broad almost savoury flavour at the same time. I can also taste the earthiness in rice - this is especially true of brown rice, which I actually don't prefer much because the taste is too strong, unless accompanied by strong earthy tastes like fruit chutney.
White rice tastes clean and delicate to me. I like the texture, because rice is very individual when boiled. I can't stand mashy textures, where everything is just a sloppy paste (think porridge), so rice is very defined in form.
I don't know about gluggy and gluey - perhaps it was overcooked, or cooked without enough water? Or not washed first, to remove some of the starches? As dumb as it sounds, rice can indeed be cooked improperly, and yes, when that happens, it's unappealing. But same could be said for many foods when badly cooked. Same can be said for dry and grainy. Rice should be properly cooked to be fluffy but moist, firm but not hard, soft but not pasty. This doesn't apply to fried rice, but that's another dish altogether.
I also favour asian sicky rice. This texture is more wet, but it is when cooked correctly supposed to be sticky, not slimy or gluggy. If it is, it's been cooked improperly. I find sticky rice to be soft and warm and sweet, especially if cooked in a traditional bamboo steamer, or less ideally perhaps, in a rice cooker. I also add the traditional asian ingredients of rice vinegar, sugar (palm or cane is best, but white will do) sake and mirin to lightly flavour it and encourage the stickiness. It's incredibly versatile, and can be used in savoury dishes with vegetables and tofu, or in sweet dishes with fruit and coconut.
Sorry. Special interest-ness.
As for me, I am possibly getting a pet this afternoon ! !! I am about to email the breeder back to organize a time to meet up and talk (ick, but in this case justified) about animal needs and so on. By this evening I could have a pet in my life. I haven't had a pet in six years.

I had been eating rice for most of my life. It's a huge thing in my culture, so I ate various ways and grains myself.
And, not even once, that I'd eat rice without anything with it. Adding a pinch of salt on top is enough to make a difference.
Eating rice without anything else with it, is how you described it. Even the natives here would agree with it.

Well, I just got word from Ma tonight that Pa has been moved out of ICU and back to a cardiac care floor. They are checking his swallow reflex because of the aspiration pneumonia. We decided that even if he fails the test and has to have thickened liquids, when he returns home we will still let him drink the pop that he loves. He's been asking for it since he was admitted to the hospital. At his age, it's quality of life that counts. Like I told Ma, he'll probably outlive all of us. I'm going to try to see him on Wed.

^ Yay, he'll make a full recovery, surely :)
I have a new pet ! !! I think he likes me. He spent the first evening I had him playing with me, eating from my hand, clawing at my legs cooking dinner until I played with him more, then fell asleep on me in front of the TV. This thing had known me about five hours. I'm used to animals being a bit cautious of new owners, taking a bit of time to ease into being comfortable with you. Not this one. He just rolls with the human thing, apparently.

^What kind of a pet? :o
I'm torn between asking for books or a kitty for my birthday.

Computer problems. Resetting Windows may cost less aggravation than putting up with the status quo. I have done enough tech support to expect the fix to be worse than the original problem in some cases.

Whether or not I am getting hearing loss in one ear, or if it's just temporary.

I'm madder than hell! I can hardly catch my breath. That damn hospital is trying to kill off Pa again. He just got transferred out of ICU after having two major infections and now they are trying to get Ma to agree with palliative care. f**k that! They said he didn't pass the swallow study. Damn SOBs! Maybe it is because you did the test when he had a damn tube up his nose and in his throat! They were wrong when they said Pa would have to be intubated several days ago and they are wrong about this! Pa went into the hospital eating and he's going to leave the hospital eating! That damn social worker and nurse were trying to get Ma to meet with them without me there cause they probably know that's the only way it will happen. They know Ma doesn't know much about this stuff and that she's gullible. They haven't seen mad yet. I fight for my patient's even though Pa is family. I'll even tell my patient's to go to another hospital if they aren't getting the help they think they should be getting. I told Ma we are never going to this hospital again. This was the same hospital that was going to kill off Ma because she needed a surgery and had a bleeding disorder and they said it would be too risky. Well, they were wrong! I took Ma to KU and found a specialist who had no problems and Ma is still here today! Damn SOBS!

It didn't take me long to find an article that says nasogastric tubes can affect a person's swallowing during a swallow evaluation study! I also found an article (it took me one search) that says a PEG tube can be inserted for a small amount of time until a person can again regain their swallowing reflex! A-holes! I already knew this information, but I just wanted to find proof that backed it up. The one study was done on elderly adults up to the age of 97 for Christ's sake! This just proves that Pa doesn't need palliative care!
