i didn't have a truck or towing chain/come-along, and it was too rotted for such anyways, i just whammed and whacked the bejeez outta it until it was about half its height and just a mound of rotten wood with a tough core. even the roots were rotted. i did this because it was a magnet for bees to make a nest in 3 feet from my window.
My dad has burned stumps before to get rid of them. You dig out around it alittle & cut the stump as low as you can, then you put some small branches &/or pine cones around it, then poor some lighter fluid over everything, then light it. You may have to add branches & cones to it while it's burning & the process can take a few hours depending.
