That's awesome! You live in the Netherlands right? I''m guessing that's why you understand the Bahasa Indonesia/Melayu the best. I'm half Dutch/ Filipino myself but I don't know or understand any of the dialects, even Tagalog. I can understand a lot of Dutch though.
That's pretty cool, so one of your parents was born in the Netherlands?
Dan kun je dit zeker ook lezen? Kun je ook in het Nederlands typen?
I am actually mixed quite a bit... my mother is Dutch/Indonesian/Chinese. Which is why I knew a handful of Malay words; but I've only recently started learning Indonesian.
Yeah, my mum, opa and oma moved to Canada from the Netherlands when my mum was 15 years old. I still have 2 uncles who live in Amsterdam. My dad is from the Philippines and he moved here in his 20's. My mum and dad met in Toronto. Yeah, I'm mainly Dutch and Filipino but if you go way way back I have some Chinese, Spanish, Russian and French in me as well.
Yes, I can read a lot of Dutch but I can't write in Dutch. My oma lived with me for my whole life when she was still alive and my mum and her spoke in Dutch a lot so I grew up understanding a lot of Dutch. If I went to the Netherlands now I probably wouldn't have a hard time getting around because I can read a lot of Dutch and understand when people talk in Dutch, I just can't really write it and I'm slow at forming Dutch sentences in my head because I have to really think of the words.
