if you try to take moon pictures on normal cameras it just looks like a lampost:(
It's a Nikon D5100 DSLR. Cornflake covered the issue on point-and-shoot overexposure. Some point-and-shoot cameras actually have a manual mode where you can adjust ISO, shutter, and aperture. My old Sony DSC-H20 had the capability to do that. It was a nice point-and-shoot.
Thanks guys! It's a little irritating seeing that one of the most popular lunar eclipse time lapse videos on YouTube is very fake. Oh well. It is what it is.
