It's not really visually appealing, I admit.

When i was a kid, i had a phobia of that meal (it's more of an appetizer actually) in specific, I've imagined it as puke :p.

Right, I'll finish off the Tenerife thread in the next couple of days. Before I do that though I will post these photos of a trip to Manchester to meet a lovely lady who is a member of WP (whom I didn't photograph, alas) and to go have a look at the Christmas Markets that were being held there at the time.

Shall we begin? Right:

The hotel where we were staying. It was very cheap for the price (£25 plus £3 per day parking) and it was basic but clean. Nasty smell of sweat when we first entered the room, though. The Metrolink tram into Manchester city centre is pretty much just across the road from the hotel. Photos of the Etap:

Image

And a view of the hotel room windows from outside:

Image

The hotel room itself.

The bunk bed set up in the room. Most rooms have a double bed on the bottom bunk and a single bed on the top one, essentially suiting three people.:

Image

Image

The hotel room window. I wouldn't be surprised if hotels get more than a few suicides, especially the bigger ones:

Image

The non-smoking sign in every hotel room:

Image

And the hotel television set. Picture quality wasn't the best as I vaguely recall but then we didn't spend that much time in the room in any case apart from sleeping.

Image

More to come soon! :)

Another quick update from me, finishing off the hotel shots:

A view of the hotel room sink. It's blue but I don't know what that faded scummy bit is in the sink base:

Image

The breakfast sign - £3.75 for breakfast at the Etap! As the breakfast in the hotel only comprises tea/coffee, cereals and toast we elected not to indulge:

Image

The Etap Hotel Policy of Stay on the room door, which roughly translates as "behave yourself, oik":

Image

One of the corridors in the hotel. Looks a bit grim I think:

Image

The drinks bar in the foyer. £3.50 for a pint bottle of Bulmers - ouch!

Image

And the hotel from the outside on the A5063 on Trafford Road:

Image

More to come soon!

I thought I would post some of the more interesting signs I encountered during my Death Valley expedition earlier this month:

I didn't see any burros, but I heard them braying while spending the night at Barker Ranch

First stop, Ballarat
Image

Orlly?
Image

Got there the "hard way" (4WD-only road)
Image

Yes, the sign refers to that wooden structure behind the bush.

Badwater Basin, the sign indicating sea level is high up on the cliff.

My Jeep works suprisingly well as a submarine.

I will take it under advisement.

I've never been able to find out the story behind it, but it's at the intersection of two roads in the middle of nowhere, and people come from all over the world to hang teakettles there.

I saw teakettles from Russia (2), UK, Japan, and France hung there...

This sort of thing isn't uncommon in the California Desert - there is a brassiere tree near Cadiz, for example:

Very pagan. Reminds me of Ireland.
