This is on a two hour loop. It looks and sounds enough like my old, real fireplace to bring back some wonderful memories.

OK, this didn't just make me happy, it absolutely shocked me.

I had dental surgery shortly after Thanksgiving. It went well, but it required *extensive* work (which, yuck, I will not describe). I haven't had terrible pain, but have taken much longer to heal than I expected, and haven't had much of an appetite most days. Which has not helped with the whole recuperating shtick.

So... I've been convalescing, very tired, and mostly housebound for the better part of what, a month now. I stocked up on bouillon and canned soup before I had the surgery, so I haven't been out more than once or twice for milk and the occasional newspaper. Plus, I'm just not 100% and it takes forever to get my lazy rear end moving, which means I'm going out around dusk, and nobody has seen me. Just this week, I finally started to get it in gear, but I've still been going out very late in the day.

Here comes the happy-making-shocking part.

Today, my doorbell has been ringing and ringing. Turns out that several of my neighbors have been worried about me.

Worried! About ME!! ! ! ?????

And they compared notes. And they all decided they should come and check on me... so they showed up at various times today, bringing cookies, and bottles of wine, and banana bread, and brownies... and here I am in my robe and jammies, doing my laundry, blushing like a schoolgirl, inviting them in, offering coffee, tea, snickerdoodles.

I moved in here two years ago. I'm not unfriendly, I've chatted with the folks around and I know their names and like them, but I did not expect this. It's not what I'm used to. I am not used to mattering to people, not like this, not for many years (unless I'm at work and somebody needs something.)

Instead of being sad about that (because I made peace with it years ago), I'm just surprised and delighted about this.

And thank God I do my Christmas gift-giving on Epiphany, so I'll have ample time to find the right things to return the kindnesses.

Holy mackerel.

Holy mackerel, indeed. This bright occurrence comes in way ahead of my monarch caterpillars munching down the milkweed.

I had a really good Christmas. My nephew was over for supper and gift-opening on Christmas Eve last night. My mom got me a number of t-shirts from the online Disney store, which were surprises. Most of them have Mickey and Minnie on them but one is a really pretty black shirt with the Little Mermaid. She also got xmas Mickey and Minnie sweaters for dad and herself. We had to pictures of ourselves in them. We sure looked like a bunch of Mickey maniacs.

My nephew was glad we didn't get one for him, though. It's not that he doesn't like Disney, he would just rather Star Wars (doesn't count as Disney!) or Pokemon. Funny thing my parents don't watch Disney cartoons much either. Maybe when my brother and I were kids...

Talking to the gf all day. I'm looking forward to meeting her family even if it likely means dealing with over 9000 kids running around.

I looked out my parents window after the second time I woke up and I saw a thin layer of snow covering the old layer of snow. I got the white Christmas I was dancing for as I was making my afternoon tea, yesterday afternoon. My dad mentioned to my mum that he caught a few glimpses of me doing that snow dance through the window from the outside.

^^ Oh, that reminded me of this! This is from the 1980s, when the Yellow Pages were still a printed book. NYNEX was the phone company in New York.

^^ Loved that one too :-)

Happiness in the moment: being able to maintain two open windows into this site, so I can listen to Thelonius Monk courtesy of Kelby, while drinking my morning coffee and typing this.

Metahappiness: people here to share music and reading and games and snark and cats and kindness with, and to care about, sometimes even in realtime :-).

Left the house for the first time in months. Smiled and made eye contact with a random stranger. Yay!

Found the stylus that I've misplaced at least 100 times in this life.
