Thanks Blabs. I've been trying to figure out something constructive to do for the folks at that paper. I'll take this post over to the thread on this topic, I've threadjacked here, sorry.

My wife is in a lot of pain and the insurance is making her jump through hoops to get her meds.

I just spent several hundred dollars for a newspaper. Went out to get one, tire was flat when I went back to my car, things went downhill from there.

There is actually a bright side to this that is not self-deceiving BS: it happened early enough that a local mechanic was still open and had my brand and size of tires. And it happened right down the street from his shop, so I wasn't stranded on the interstate at midnight or anything.

But the damage couldn't be repaired. And the idiot light never came on to warn me. Not even when the tire was pancake flat.

I was planning to replace that tire and its opposite in the Fall. Since the mechanic I found closes early Saturdays, there wasn't time to investigate the problem with the warning light. And I didn't want the bill any higher than it already was going to be anyway. So... I just looked up how to reset the warning light, online, and I'll give it a try later today, and we'll see what happens.

And then I think I'm going to crawl under my bed and hide, alongside my cats, for about a month.

That's horrible! Hope she gets the medication she needs.

That’s happened to me a few times, Esmeralda.

Once, two tires blew out right in the middle of a major NYC area highway.

Did you go to a “flats fix” place?

Redx: sorry for your wife’s pain.

I know how pain feels. It’s a horrible feeling.

As for the “hoops,” blame it partially on those people who abuse prescription pain medications.

That sounds like a horrible day indeed. Take a good long rest. Hope you recover soon.

Good luck with the warning light!

Oh YIKES Kraftie!

No, I went to a mechanic. Actually called mine, who was about five miles up the same road, but he was closing early and suggested these folks. Who were about a mile away. So they came on out and put on my minispare for me, but I won't drive on that, it's plastic, yecch, and I figured with a long weekend ahead I might as well get the new tires two months early and just accept the extra cost of a holiday emergency.

What made this particularly fun is that I hadn't eaten anything at all this morning, and was expecting to have my newspapers in about ten minutes followed by a huge diner breakfast. Whoops.

But I'm really proud of myself - I didn't just roll with it, I was actually cheerful throughout. I mean, it was going to cost what it was going to cost, there was no sense getting worked up about that. They actually gave me a complimentary detail (outside washed and inside vacuumed!) for being so laid back about everything.

LLWolf: Thanks. I basically used up every particle of resilience that I own... and I'd better recharge FAST, because I'm getting my roof re-shingled next week. Bam bam bam bam, tarps all over, cats under the bed for the next year... but it's necessary and I've been waiting for about six weeks due to all the rain. I am just. So. Glad. That I belong to two credit unions and no banks. Because credit unions have some very good arrangements for loans, and oh dear.

(Edit in: and I forgot to mention - I got a whopping four hours of sleep last night, no idea why the insomnia hit. So this has been a Class A Winner of a day, truly.)

I truly dislike it when there is construction on or around my house so seeing as I read you are sensitive to sounds like me that will be quite stressful and exhausting. Good luck with that! I feel for your cats; have a blind dog myself and she is terribly scared of banging and it's very sad. Good luck and a hug to them as well

Thank you :-)

On the plus side, at least I did get some "shade gardening" done today. I got outside and sprayed my roses and dwarf Alberta spruce with natural virucide and miticide respectively, after the sun was low enough for them to be shaded, but they'll still have ample time for the leaves and needles to dry before it gets dark (avoid fungus).

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into one expensive and time consuming mess after another... (sorry, Mr. Fitzgerald).

The heat made me unhappy the last couple days. Damn near close to 100. Part of the reason I moved to Vermont from Louisiana is cuz I got tired of the high heat. I'm willing to bet that my parents are actually having a lower temp rite now. I walked to RiteAid this morning at about 9:30 which is about a 15 minute walk each way. I thought I'd beat some of the heat but I was sweating after a couple minutes on my walk there. & people say global warming does not exist :ncool:
