(For the TL; DR folks, this is about appallingly rude treatment by a cashier.)
So... a few days ago I went to a local health food/supplements store and ordered some essential oils. The woman who took my order has been plausibly-deniably borderline rude to me before, who knows why. But she was quite polite and helpful with the order, and I left feeling vaguely encouraged that perhaps she'd resolved whatever it was that had been bugging her.
Hoo boy.
I got an email today, which I misunderstood, telling me the order was shipped - which I thought meant it had arrived. So off I go to pick up my stuff.
Same woman, puts my customer ID # in their database, proceeds to inform me that
(a) no order is in there,
(b) no order was EVER in there,
(c) I have NEVER placed any special orders with that chain EVER, and
(d) my name is something totally different that what it really is.
(Thus, she'd pulled up the wrong data file! And when I told her that wasn't my name she got *ANGRY* at ME?)
What on earth?
I pointed out that she herself had taken the order and I told her exactly what was in it... whereupon another cashier intervened, checked everything again, and let me know it was on its way and when to expect it. (PS, I had the receipt as well, but it was on my fridge at home, under a magnet. Still is. When I go back to collect, I'll bring it with me, you betcha.)
Fortunately, this is a chain, and there are other stores that I will patronize instead once I've collected these oils. Unfortunately, they're 25 miles away. But it's worth a 50 mile round trip, not to interact with that woman ever again.
No, of course she didn't apologize.
Sheeesh.
(P.S. I've actually seen behavior much like this before, in a workplace; the individual turned out to have some serious problems and seemed compelled to mistreat specific people; the behavior escalated until she ultimately lost her job, and no, I had nothing to do with that.)
