They seem to be of poorer quality... maybe because I had to downsize them on the image hosting site. I probably should have done that before I uploaded them.

Ooh, that looks like Dale Chihuly's work - great stuff: http://www.chihuly.com/
He had an amazing exhibition at Kew Gardens: http://www.kew.org/chihuly/exhibition/index.html

Several of his pieces were at the gardens.

First image I took with the cannon d1100 and a 18-55 lens that came with the starter kit(it has already been brought to my attention that I´m probably going to need to find a more advanced lens in the near future)

I think you will find the kit lens is pretty flexible! I have two additional lenses besides my 18-55 kit lens for my Nikon D5100, but I tend to use the kit lens for most shots. It isn't as sharp as a prime lens, but it still takes great shots. I hope you post more pictures from your new DSLR!

These stills are from a short time lapse film I made comprised of over 8,600 shots. The 3 stills are straight off the camera, and are not edited.

I had to drive 2-3 hours away to get these night shots. If it weren't for the waxing gibbous moon, there would have been even more stars and a pronounced milky way in those shots.

*sigh* I'd probably have to move abroad to get a night sky like that.

That's Orion alright; the highlight of my shot.
The area I grew up in, in Ohio, had a sky so dark, you could barely see the blackness of space. Seeing the milky way was a normal occurrence, and now they have built an observatory park there under the Dark Sky Initiative.

I've only ever seen the sky like that two times in my life, clear enough that you could make out clouded areas of stars. space is indeed epic.

Did you watch the video I embedded? Skip to 4:08 if you don't want to watch through the entire thing, and see it in motion along with jet trails and a tiny meteor here and there.
