Yup x2

I couldn't be any more disappointed in my government than I am.
Just when I think that, I get even more disappointed

i'm from brazil, growing up, politics here wasn't perfect but it was predicable and somewhat progressive. since 2002, we had the workers party in power, as much they should be criticized, they weren't the absolutely worst. we had the coup/impeachment on 2016... and the rise of hypocrite conservatives with a dangerous touch of extreme liberal policy on economy.

we will have a second round between the worker's party (i like them, but they have a very worn out image right now) x this guy who is a mix between trump and hitler – he almost won on the first round. the congress and senate will be very aligned with him.

his motto was "brazil above all, god above everything". his political program was empty loose phrases. his campaign was based on hate speech, he just said on TV that he wants to put an end on "all activism", he insist on adjusting the workers right (which goes hard specially on rural workers, he had said several times about making flexible what is understood as work analog to slavery), wants to open protected lands to economic exploitation, etc etc. his vice-president just said yesterday that his grandson was beautiful because they had whitened their lineage. they also said brazil had issues because we had inherited laziness from indigenous people and indolence from black people. also, they were pushing a narrative against the elections saying it is a fraud, that they should won at first round, there was a bit of turmoils in that sense today.

it's all very sad.

political sociopathy is the same the world over. people who should know better continue to vote to screw themselves over, or the local laws prevent them from voting to defend themselves from these scoundrels in the first place. it's a rigged game in too many places.

yes. it's really sad because it seems to be an world phenomena... a few places managed to get free from this conservative wave, like Portugal for example... I want to have hope in a better world, but it's hard.

beyond sad, one needs to get MAD and make plans to try to counteract the evil one sees around one.

I'll 3rd that notion, as I hope that what little my electoral activity does something to correct this stupidity.

Saturday and Sunday I went to my parents for our usual Canadian Thanksgiving meal that we have on Sunday. But late in the night on Saturday I got bad stomach pains and diarrhea for no obvious reason and barely slept. The next day I felt awful and didn't feel like eating a huge turkey dinner at all. I took some of the food home with me but I'm still feeling "off" today. I've been getting these bowel problems more frequently lately, at least once a week, and naturally it has to be after I go to bed at night. Because of this my anxiety about going to bed is even worse than before. I don't know if it's because of my age or something I've been eating or just anxiety in general, but my mom said I should go see the doctor. That, of course, makes me even more anxious. All I can think about is getting all kinds of humiliating, painful and uncomfortable tests and exams like having a camera stuck up my butt. But I will make an appointment tomorrow. Being middle-aged sucks. :(

Oh, and today I had to deal with at least one vegan preaching that anyone who eats meat on Thanksgiving or any other time is a cold-blooded murderer. And one of my cats brought up a hairball along with maybe a gallon of stomach fluids all over my living room floor. :eew:

a godawful brand of mashed potatoes we had for dinner. None of us liked it, so it ended up in the food waste trash. It was that bad.

When people try to drag you into negative or uncomfortable debates just keep this attitude:

Don't let the turkeys get you down (no pun)!
I hope your tummy gets better soon, though.
