Ah, but there's the thing. We don't hunt, we don't fish, and we don't cross the fence. They do all three. They even slaughter (ie, mow) part of our grass. They used to mow a lot more of it, but my mother put out a pot of flowers, which they have to go around. (Whilst having our grass mowed by them doesn't sound so bad, they keep the blades so low that it scrapes the dirt; there is no grass after they're done.)

Ohhh, that is sooo infuriating. It's trespassing...period. When I was in HS I used to mow my parent's lawn. When our new neighbors built their house, the guy used to cut at an angle until by the time he got to the street he was across the property line by over two feet. When they built his house, they tore up part of our lawn to landscape his, so they sodded across the property line onto ours, to fix the damage. He always assumed that meant it was his property. I went and added stakes where the property markers were and he still cut our yard. I was a professional lawn care service provider, so cutting at an angle not only upset my inner anal retentiveness, but also my professionalism.

A couple of years ago, some really inbred people moved in next door to my current home. Each week when they cut the lawn, they came over a little further, until they were a whopping eight feet across the line and only a few feet from my house. When I confronted them, they were completely dumbfounded. A few months later, the bank foreclosed on them and they were booted. They had signed one of them sub-prime loans and when the rate jumped, they couldn't afford the payments.

Okay, now to my confession. I confess I killed a bird on Wednesday while driving to work. I forgot to confess about it, becasue that was the same day I was fired from my program. The bird flew in front of my car and instead of swooping up, it dove down. I thought it had made it, until I saw from my driver's side mirror a small black object fling up in the air in to the left-side rear of my car. It must have got caught up under the car, because it did not get smashed under my tires. Stuff like that bothers me. I don't even step on bugs and walk with my head down to avoid them. In the rain, I some times spend hours saving worms.

We had a problem with property lines; that's actually why that set of neighbors doesn't like us. They were here before us, and they got along quite well with the original owners of this house (it was fairly new when we moved in, so there was only one family before us). There was no fence (or stakes) to determine the property line; the back sections of both properties are field. Thus, no one besides the two owners really knew where the lines were.

When we moved in, they were friendly for the first - six years? I think it was something like that. Then my father decided to build a barn (which is really more of an office on top, wood-shop on bottom type of thing; while my father wants livestock, my mother keeps saying no). Obviously, we checked the lines and knew where our property ended; they knew as well. The was that they had been telling everyone (all of their friends, the other neighbors, relations, what have you) that they had bought the back section of our property and some of the side. They hadn't, and that was where we were going to (and did) build the barn. Needless to say, they weren't too thrilled about that - what would the neighbors think? (They knew, of course, that they had never bought it and that it was our land. Why they lied about it in the first place ('yeah, I've got that whole field that does absolutely nothing; we just leave it to the farmer down the road' is not the most prideful statement) is beyond me.

So then they tried to get us in trouble for awhile. First we had an office in the back (we do, but it's not illegal unless more than three employees work out there; we could actually run a bed and breakfast if we wanted to and it would be perfectly legal), then we didn't have permits (we had tons of them), and then we were building another house (my brother asked if our grandmother could live out there (she's old and sick and probably shouldn't be living alone, but you try telling her that); somehow the neighbors heard about that and reported it) which wasn't five acres away (minimum for the township), and then we were releasing wild animals on our property (rehabilitated groundhogs and ducks; wild animals indeed) without a license (the woman releasing them did have a license). All were reported and dismissed; she re-reported some of the complaints. The final time came when she (it's a couple on that side) stood up in the middle of a city meeting and said that we were "acting suspiciously". They sent an investigator out to check (without telling us; we don't know who he/she was or what he/she did), and the commissioner called to warn us about her. At the next meeting, it was announced that we had done nothing wrong and were perfectly fine; she "thanked the investigator and said she would 'continue to keep an eye on the situation.'" (This is all on public record, the meetings always are. Peachy. This annoys me as we have done nothing wrong, but it sure as heck looks like it if you just read the records.)

After that she took to following us down the property on her ATV (for God's sake, it's like six acres from the house to the back. You can walk it easily) whenever we went to the back. She gave that up pretty soon as we never did anything, and I go back there quite frequently - she got sick of following me. She also started walking her dog whenever I walked mine, which was interesting; Heidi is a black lab/springer spaniel mix, and she's no small puppy. Her dog is a little ankle biter (I forget what they're called, but they look kind of like mops). I've only ever known Heidi to attack other dogs twice (both times under medication), but she's territorial enough; she can sound quite fearsome when she barks (if she wants to). The neighbor's dog either ran away or refused to move; the neighbor gave up. (I have nothing against the dog; we pet-sitted for her several times, and the dog was cute; it's the owner who's not.) Then it became "let's try and make them jealous" (we honestly just ignore them for the most part; why they still bother is also beyond me), so they put in a bunch of stuff. The only truly aggravating thing they've managed to do so far (well, besides sending out the police so many times) is install a wood stove heater, which they use in most weathers. There's no point in airing out the house if the air smells like stale wood. The trespassing signs are just a new thing, and they're actually quite funny; I doubt they view it as such, however.

(That was probably way more than anyone wants to know. Sorry. I'm kind of bored at the moment, so I'll relate long stories.)

Our other neighbor thinks that the property line is at the telephone pole (it's not; we have a couple of yards more than that), but it doesn't matter, as neither of us are planning to do anything with it, and they're a good deal more polite.

I'm sorry to hear about the bird. I'm the same way; it's devastating when something like that happens.

I confess that I'm kind of in a cabin fever right now (it's my first day home in 12 days; you'd think I would be reluctant to leave, but nope).

I also confess that I had something to confess, which is why I came on here (I meant for the neighbor thing to be shorter, but I always add to many details), but now I can't remember what it was. I confess that I do that a lot.

I confess that that story made me very angry. My head is brimming with all of the ways I would retaliate against such jackasses. But, please don't RainSong me (:P) and apologize, because it is your neighbors that I'm angry with, not the storyteller. I confess that I like your long stories, even when they make me angry. I tip my hat to your family for being able to put up with such nonsense so eloquently; I could not, and I'd probably get in serious trouble because of it; I have little patience for litigious subtleties (which has gotten me in trouble in the past).

I'm going to go walk around outside and watch the spiders and dragonflies for a while...

Good fortune,

- Icarus

Ha, you've got me; I was going to apologize. No matter.

They don't make me angry anymore. At first, with the police, they did. Then they were nuisances. Now they're just boring, sometimes amusing (the trespassing signs are amusing. They really are). I don't see why they can't let it go; it's been two years. No one else remembers it, and we're beyond caring. We'll never be friendly with them, but we're not hostile either.

I see only one situation where they could possibly be a problem, and it's pretty far in the future (in terms of time anyway). If they do what I think they might, I will make sure they regret it. If they don't, I don't care. (I confess I have my mother's temper - flash fire when provoked enough. She says I don't have her control, but whether or not that's true remains to be seen.) They probably won't.

I confess that that is just a tad sparkly for my tastes... But I also confess that you just helped make my day, along with Ana54 and her "crazy" tangentiness. :D I confess I've actually had a crush on Tinkerbell for as long as I can remember. [Did I already confess this? Whatever...] I confess that it amuses me sometimes how easily cheered up I am by the "little things" in life...

I hope you're having a most excellent day, rosered.

I confess I almost did the Tinkerbell picture last night, but got lazy.

I also confess I want to go to a Town Hall Meeting in Ohio and complain about some people who are nuisances.

I confess that when I say "did the Tinkerbell pictue", I meant went on Google and found one to post to the thread. Not "did" as in, well, you know. I just wanted to clarify that.

I confess that I put some weight in the old notion that "It's the thought that counts...". Thank you, my friend; you get credit too.

In the vein of being too lazy (tired? exauhsted?) to post certain things recently, I confess that there've been a few times recently when I wanted to try to toss some encouagement your way, but had trouble finding the words, or got distracted by something else. It sounds like life's really been kicking you in the head recently. I confess that I know a lot about how utterly treacherous humans can be, what it's like to be betrayed and stabbed in the back, how it hurts the most when this is done by those close to you. I confess that I'm really pulling for you, and hope things take a turn for the much better very soon.

Good fortune,

I confess that that, uh, "clarification" took my mind to some interesting places, whence it did no go upon reading the "unclarified" message. :P

I confess that this really means a lot. THANK YOU! Outside of my Mom and Sister, I really have nobody to discuss this with and find encouragement. Fortunately, I plan to "network" at the conference I am at this week. Not that I am any good at it, being socially inept, but I am going to give it a try. I hated my job anyway, but it still sucks. In a few years, I hope to look back on this time and say it was what kicked me in the arse to start living the life I want to live, not the one everyone else wants me to live.

i'm not sure what i haven't talked about.

i confess that i read a ton of yaoi fanfiction on fanfiction.net dispite being most against it, and this is why i'm a hypocrite.
the bad thing is those are the well written stories and i will only read something if it's well written.

Thank you, Trigger11. The ire over my neighbors is not necessary.

I confess that I'm rather tired tonight.

I also confess that I'm unsettled about an old friend I started talking to again; I don't know if he was lying to me before or if he's lying to me now. I know he's the same person (in terms that I'm not talking to some totally random person with the same name and general appearance), but he doesn't seem like it.

I confess all the sugar I took to wake up is kicking in now (it's a bit late), and I'm laughing a lot more than usual.
