One of my jewish relatives is a hero of the soviet union. Also the highest ranking jew to serve in the Red Army. Was in charge of an artillery battery at the battle of stalingrad.

On the otherside of the family my great great grandfather was awarded the Legion Du Honoure for being the only one of his seven brothers to survive the Battle of Verdun, died around the time I was born from injuries he sustained from exposure to mustard gas. His name is now my middle name and his full name appears on the arc du truimph

Great Uncle was a high ranking officer in the free french commando's in world war 2, prior to that he had a lucrative career as a cigar smuggler in canada  Very funny man sadly troubled by his time during the war lost a lot of friends and saw too many SS attrocities for his liking. Didn't live long enough for me to really get to know him that well.

My family tree on my fathers side can be traced back to a women called Matilda who lived in the 13th century and whom anyone with my surname shares as a common ancestor.

My father had a similar "world" when he was a kid. Ironically, it was called "Creedonia" Although his was different than mine. In his world, he was a king, and he ruled pretty violently. Mine is called the Creedon Republic and it's a democracy.

Who knew.

My older sister is writing a novel. I don't know how long she's been working on it, but it's over 200 pages now. Her ambition makes me jealous - I usually give up on a story after 10 pages or less. :|

My uncle who recently died had a son who died when he was in his preteens or very early teens of some neurodegenerative disease.
