The Brother Grimm's original story about Hansel and Gretel featured a evil cannibal old woman that lived in a cottage made of cheese! I'm not kidding. It was not smooth sailing though. There were a few curds to iron out. The brothers could not figure out how such a house would be able to support a roof. They changed it to a cottage of candles wax. They gave it to their publisher, and it was all set to go to print. Then their publisher told himself "Candle wax! That's a fire hazard!" and he took it upon him to change it again. "Candy. Sounds like candles. Everyone loves candy. Kids will love this story!" The Grimm brothers told him "Of course it is a fire hazard! That's the whole point." But it was too late. Ten thousand, three hundred, and sixteen books had already been printed. In those days, books were hand printed. How else could a book be made? So the brothers really had no choice.

I swear I heard this on a YouTube video where the older, still surviving, brother recorded the tale on an Edison cylinder. Sadly, the video was taken down because the surviving brother had a very sing song way of saying thing, almost a falsetto, and YouTube thought it was an abuse of fair music use. Okay. I admit, that last part a lie. YouTube never does that, but T. Edison's family sued the YouTube channel that posted the video. Too bad.

I'd totally forgot about this FACT until I read about CockneyRebel's love of cottage cheese.

To save money I raise my own socks. I keep a herd in the backyard. It is easy to catch matching pairs of socks and "harvesting" them.

Last week, however, that backfired. A sock I put in my dresser was still alive (and not very happy!!).

Even less happy when I pushed my foot into its mouth and down its throat.

Fortunately, the hospital thinks they can save my foot.
