You got it! It's a T2 turbocharger impeller. You're right about the DIY jet engines too! I built and tested my first jet engine when I was in highschool.

I'm envious! I've always wanted to experiment with such a project. I'm very oriented to mechanical things, such as seriously modifying cars, and I am a machinist. I am not sure if I have posted this already:
