I prefer off topic as well to be honest. I mean conversation naturally evolves from one topic to the next anyway

But I usually use the "off topic" threads though when I'm here so as not to derail because it's not worth the hassle to be fair

A few years ago off topic wasn't really an issue round these parts but you can't go back you've just gotta "roll with the punches" as they say

That's the word, natural. Sticking to the topic isn't quite natural. I can see both sides of the argument but can you imagine how far you'd get in a real-life conversation if you tried to pull it back on topic all the time? It'd be like a boardroom meeting with an agenda and minutes.

On the other hand, in real life conversations shift topic too fast for me, so after they've flipped the topic a few times I chip in with something about the first topic, and they don't like it. Somebody told me I was like Minnie Caldwell for doing that, but he was very friendly about it and we all got on great. I felt really included in that bunch.

I don't think staying on topic in the big wide world would work unless you was sat in a classroom learning about one topic

Even then in classroom discussions things move away from the subject and it's up to the crowd control teacher to pull it back again

Thank goodness we're not in school eh

Amen to that. 8) We used to get the scripture teacher to go off at tangents telling us entertaining anecdotes so he didn't have time to teach scripture and beat us for not learning it properly. He was a vicious tyrant, but although he often realised what we'd done, he never thrashed us for doing it. I suppose the ego trip soothed his savage breast, like violin music does with Frankenstein's Monster.

I'd rather be at the coast than in the countryside

I used to work with a guy a few years back who used to take great delight in getting people fired

I could never understand it and it used to concern me so much that if someone did get fired I wouldn't let him know because I couldn't stand seeing his face light up

It was people who he used to talk to as well
He didn't discriminate
he was like some kind of smiling assassin

In the end I had to stop speaking to him completely because he was actually dangerous

I think some people are just born this way
I didn't and I don't even hate him for the way he is/was but I just can't have people like that in my life

It's like bad energy

This character you describe sounds particularly sinister. 8O

He used to use the company rule book to to beat people up with but because no one else really cared about the rules to that degree he was getting away with all kinds and I know this because I sat across from him for about 3 years

Everyone knew what he was like but he was a bit of a sycophant so nobody really stood a chance

It's dreadful when you think

I don't get it and that's my random truth about my encounter

I have encountered people like this also in the workplace, although not to the degree you have described with the character you have encountered.

I guess some people are a just bit twisted in this way.
