More from me.

Taken in Aylesbury. I didn't like the place much at all - thought it was a bit of a dump with not much to see but anyway...

@ Tequila

I'm kind of jealous that we don't have as much man-made beauty across the pond. American towns are ugly in comparison.

edit: I mean the earlier photos you posted  . The latest set looks more like a typical US town.

Hi Henbane and marshall - I'm glad you like them. I'll post some more photos soon!

For now, here's my lunch today, taken at a local supermarket café:

The cenotaph in the Buckinghamshire village we stopped at:

The next day was our day trip into London. Here's photos taken at the station, starting with the car park...

...and the railway track:

The location sign at our train station:

Once we got on the train it was a fairly uneventful 35-40 minute journey into London. Here's a shot taken from the carriage at the Berkhamsted stop:

Having made it to London Euston we got off and began to look for the Underground station. Here's a photo taken on the way:

We then took the Tube to Embankment in Central London. Here is the exterior of that station:

More?

This is Hungerford House, which is a Grade II listed building on the Embankment road. It used to be an electricity power station, now it's a fully-licensed bar I believe:

Even more photos?

A road sign at the Victoria Embankment:

King Charles Street, London. This is where the Foreign and Commonwealth Ofifce have their buildings, just behind Number 10:

The entrance to the Cabinet Office in Whitehall:

A little further down Whitehall is this plaque, which commemorates the first meeting of the long-defunct Canterbury Association, formed in 1849 in order to help establish a colony in what is now the Canterbury Region in the South Island of New Zealand:

Image

Popped in on the JD Wetherspoon for a swift half before going to the London WP meet. Here's one half of the range of British real ales they had on the bar. I plumped for a 288ml serving of Acorn's Old Moor Porter (4.4%):

Image

Having - unusually slowly! - supped my half, it was back out onto the street again. I passed this poster, for the theatre play Being Shakespeare starring Simon Callow, near Admiralty Arch and Trafalgar Square:

More to come soon!

The Admiralty Arch is a large office building in London which incorporates an archway providing road and pedestrian access between The Mall, which extends to the South-West, and Trafalgar Square to the North-East. It was designed by Sir Aston Webb, constructed by John Mowlem & Co and completed in 1912. It adjoins the Old Admiralty Building, hence the name:

Crowds enjoying the performance of a street entertainer in Trafalgar Square. Taken from the National Gallery:

After waiting for all the WP members that were going to come on the visit to turn up, we disembarked to a nearby pub - The Chandos. The Chandos is a very old-syle pub (run by Samuel Smiths) with both an upstairs and a downstairs bar. The main excuse for going is that it's characterful and the ale is definitely cheap for Central London!

Image

We chatted and drank quite happily for an hour or so before the subject of food started to come up. Most of the people ordering food had burgers, but I had to be different and had the macaroni cheese with cheese garlic bread and cress garnish. £6.70 I think it was:

Image

After saying my goodbyes to the people there (I wanted to get some sightseeing in!) I decided it was time to take some more photographs. Moving towards Covent Garden, I spotted this Irn Bru-branded newsagent:

Image

I made my way into Covent Garden and strolled around the piazza:

I did, actually. I've been a quite few times, but never really did anything touristy. It was usually for clubbing weekends at Fabric or the Ministry. This time I actually saw Buckingham Palace. My mate came down from Brizzole to go see Doug Stanhope with me. He's a commercial illustrator, so we went around a few galleries, too.
Another mate of ours who was supposed to come in from Banbury couldn't make it. One of his kids was ill, so we pimped his ticket and bought more booze.
We rented an apartment on Commercial street near the Aldgate East tube. Unfortunately, I only took one pic.

What did you make to Doug Stanhope? I think he's very good but really haven't seen much of him except for his Charlie Brooker skits. Perhaps I should watch him more on YouTube.

Glad you had a good time in the capital, mind. :)

Oh, and more photos:

Yeah, we had a great time. As for Stanhope, he's well past his peak. I'd recommend you watch No Refunds, that's his best material. His show was fairly average and we hated his warm up guy. I was a bit disappointed tbh that was until he went into this hilarious 10 min tirade of abuse accompanied by the warm up guy on guitar at the end of the show about how s**t a time he's had playing 39 shows in England, Wales and Scotland and that if anyone wants to see him in future, he'll happily let them have his sofa 'cause there's no way he's coming back.

Here's a clip from Saturday's show
