Oh man, I love Billy Joel, too....my favorite songs of his are River of Dreams, Tell Her About It, And So It Goes, We Didn't Start the Fire (like Toy_Soldier mentioned) and of course, Piano Man.

I also really liked "Why Should I Worry" (The song he sang for his character in Oliver and Company) when I was a kid.

I think he has always tried to really catch something tangible in his music and especially his lyrics. Not just making music, but often telling a story. He reminds me somewhat of
Gordon Lightfoot in that respect. I grew up in same area as he did, and not too long after, so it was also very easy to connect with his subjects. Not all the subjects were pleasent to contemplate either, but sank in like a knife deeply, propelled by the honesty. Piano Man and Captain Jack were like that. I also like Summer Highland Falls and Billy the Kid.
P.S. I noticed you have posted some Retro Music & was curious how you came by that preference. Did you have a like a music mentor or find it on your own exploring ?
I like Gordon Lightfoot, too....I liked his "If You Could Read My Mind" song.
To answer your question, my preference for retro music developed when I was ages 8 - 13...My stepmom had a bunch of Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel tapes and CDs, and we'd listen to them in the Car and I found that I loved them. Some of the Simon and Garfunkel was a bit deep for a kid (and a little depressing at times) but I loved their stuff, too.

My biomom and I would also listen to classic rock stations on the radio. I mostly like it puts me in mind of a time when the world wasn't so....insane.
