stevie vai is considered by many to be the best guitarist in the world, and he has a very western style of musical imagination, but frank zappa has a completely "out of this world" style of musical imagination, and whilst stevie vai sounds very good for a few minutes, he eventually runs out of ideas of where to take the music, but zappa could take the music into almost endless reiterations that leave stevie vai scrambling to simply accompany him.

many people may not agree, and i guess this clip will not be listened to in this thread, but it is the greatest guitar dual i have ever heard, and stevie vai, who considers himself the messiah of guitar, has to bow to zappa who outpaces him eventually , and vai then becomes a disciple of zappa's musical expression of endless direction. whatever. i will post this clip somewhere with fewer pages if i get the opportunity.

i am mesmerized by zappa's depth of concentration and field of possibility.

You must have a rather loose definition of many. He's not even in the top 100 in Rolling Stone's 2011 list. Btw, of all the top 10 & top 100 guitarists lists I could find, RS had assembled by far the best panel of voters. Actually no one else was even close.

Number 83, Eddie Hazel is a personal favorite of mine, and this his signature song. The legend is that when they recorded it, the band leader George Clinton told him to imagine his mother had died and then learn it was not true. It is fact it was done in one take and the other musicans who started to play were faded out by Clinton when he saw how powerfully Hazel was playing. There are lyrics but they are only indistinctly heard.

i see very few appraisals of people's posts by ensuing posters. they just slap their own collections of songs on top of the previous posters songs, and they wait i suppose in vain for an appraisal of what they post until the next poster just dumps their own musical tastes over the top of their posts, and it continues in that fashion until someone actually recognizes a previous posters post, but even then, it is like a long line of people queuing up to plop their own contributions on top , but no one gets talked to or appraised for their tastes. i am not saying that the contributions of other posters are inferior. i am saying that everyone only cares about what they have posted and they do not listen to anything else, and they presume everyone is going to stop and spend time to listen to what they post, but i can see that few people in this thread care about anything else than what they have posted.
it should not take you more than 54 years to see that.

why do you have to guess what mood you are in. i always know what mood i am in, and if you make statements from a mood that you only guess you are in then i guess those statements are at best just a guess.

it must be ok to just dump your musical delights here without reference to other people's contributions. even though i am much younger than you, i can see you are using my social disfigurement as a ladder to stand upon to spruik your own tastes from a higher platform.
