I can browse WP directly, but I need to open VPN in order to use Google Web Translator.

I would think that's wise anyway. Anybody who willingly lets Google know their real IP address is kind of asking to be tracked, profiled, and marketed at. WP is unlikely to be so fiendish, though I see it's got google-analytics.com as one of its Java scripts. I find it hard to believe anything by Google would be able to resist the temptation to harvest our data for itself, though I'm not blaming WP for using it. End of machiavellian rant.
