Yes. Technology has evolved much faster than humans have. We have the ability to create on a massive scale but we don't have the intellectual and emotional stability to use it technology wisely and end up using it to destroy.

Does technology (specifically computers and TV) cause a change in thinking patterns and behavior when people are exposed to them from childhood?

Wing Commander was underrated IMO, although it's not as good as it could have been it was better than most contemporary reviews had made it sound.
