I wasn't allowed to have any fizzy drinks untill I was 8 year old (parents concerned about sugar).
When I first tried cola., The bubbles hurt my mouth, so I drank fizzy drinks diluted with water for a while.

Speaking of cola, people in my area like to boil cola and ginger together, and the finished product is basically hot sugar water.

I got people out of the corner of my eye once, but it was after British Airways had stopped me sleeping for a night or two, so I wasn't worried about it.
