I received a text message from the doctor who did my colonoscopy about needing additional care. My last colonoscopy was last November (one week before Thanksgiving) and they told me to come back in five years.

So this text message was completely unsurprised.

For what it's worth, I did call up the doctor's office and asked about it. Apparently it is some kind of glitch -- I'm not due back for another four years.

Definitely.

If they were closer, I wouldn't mind going to talk to him, but it's a 200 mile round trip and I don't like to drive that much.

By the way, last June, I went in for a pre-procedure consultation for my colonosopy last year. I wore the same shirt that I had to a dinner the previous Saturday. I hadn't realized it, but I had spilled something on the shirt at that dinner (probably some beans) without realizing it. The doctor made a comment about it but I had no idea what he was talking about until I took the shirt off that night.

I had been scheduled for the colonoscopy in mid July, but I had to postpone because I had gall bladder surgery the day before the colonoscopy was scheduled.

Yeah, but I did wash it before wearing it again.

It's one of my favorite shirts.

It's not one of my most favorite shirts -- I save those for things like Christmas service, Easter Service, weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. Always with a bolo tie, of course. And my dress hat.

The hat was my father's but he hardly wore it. It is a silverbelly color something like this.

I have flattened the brim out in an older style so that it curls up just slightly. I don't like today's brim shape styles. Even the one in the picture curls up too much for my tastes.

I have two hats. The fur hat is for winter time (or cooler weather) and the straw hat for summer time (or warmer weather).

My straw hat is a really inexpensive brand. The leather concho hat band around it costs more than the hat and looks quite snazzy. It works well, but couldn't handle much rain if we were to actually get much rain.

Thanks.

I used to wear hats when I was younger. I used to get called "Billy Jack" a lot in the 1970s because my hat kind of resembled the one from the tv show:

Mine didn't have the same crown and the hat band was more of a red, white, and blue hat band. I wore that hat so much that I wore it out. After that, I quit wearing hats for years, but about six or seven years ago I sunburned my eyeballs a couple of times and coming real close a third time. I was wearing a regular cap all three times but that didn't help. After starting to wear hats again, I haven't had any more such problems.

Also, the dermatologist told me that she wished everyone wear wide brimmed hats to help protect the ears from skin cancer. She said to not go outside without a hat on.

I'm tempted to get another hat for every day wear in the winter that is similar to that hat from the 1970s.

From working outside in the summer in the middle of the day.

The first time was up on the roof of my office building at about noon on mid July day. The second time was about three weeks later up on top of city hall.

The time I nearly sunburned them again was out in the mayor's back yard the Saturday before the 4th of July the next year. I fortunately realized what was happening, excused myself, and went inside.

I'm a lot more careful now.

I think that it was in his book The Mind's Eye that Oliver Sachs wrote about his ocular melanoma.
