1985
Fred M. Lynn Middle School...hated by all the guys and for some reason liked by the girls. I think it was becasue I dressed different and was new. It didn't matter, as I had no clue to what to do about it. The Miami Hurricanes win their second College World Series Title.

I confess that when I used to work as a theater monkey, I got so disgusted from dealing with idiot customers who assumed I was an idiot, I actually crafted a custom nametag with the name of "Pondscum". I wore it for about a day and a half, and garnered several odd looks from marks, uh, I mean customers. Then I got pulled aside and was given a good talking to about not doing that sort of thing by some minor member of management, who I imagine got paid about a 1.50$/hr more than I did. So as a result I crafted a custom nametag with the name of Vlad. This new nametag would elicit frequent questions of whether or not this was my real name, to which I always replied emphatically, "YES" [which was a lie], and immediately launched off into horrific tales about the expliots of Vlad the impaler. I confess that most of my co-workers got caught re-selling ticket stubs and pocketing the money and were fired, [the theater was too cheap to actually pay a doorman/doorhoneybunny, so we often tore tickets as we sold them in the box office.] but somehow I always managed to avoid the undercover "special agents" (seriously) whose job it was to ferret out this sort of thing. I was the only one not to get caught doing so, though I did it frequently, and don't regret it a whit.
Good fortune,
- Icarus the Slickster

I confess that I managed to lose two days as a result of slowing archiving. I confess that I would like to be furious with myself over that, but instead I went numb; I'll apologize later, when I feel bad (I know I will sooner or later - probably the moment the internet dies).
I confess that I am determined to make sure it won't happen again (and it won't), but that doesn't make up for what I screwed up. (I'm sorry...)

I confess I do not want to go to Germany in September to get my "farewell" from the program that just fired me. The Germans have been real cool, but the US folks who back-stabbed me I do not want to see again. Considering the circumstances, I do not know how I will handle it when I have to stand in front of everyone and give a speech at the social.
Post 1996:
In 1996, I got engaged. Started to finally get my focus and confidence back after over a year from breaking up with my ex. Continued to promote bands and nearly did drop out of school to do this full time. Saw a lot of shows, including The Samples, Seven Mary Three, Stir, The Gufs, Guster, Helmet, Live, They Might Be Giants, The Refreshments, 2 Skinnee J's, Slackjaw, Poe, Alaskan, Baby Fat, Gibb Droll, Fighting Gravity, and many, many more. Had backstage passes for the Dave Matthews Band show in Richmond due to my connection with The Samples, who opened up. This was huge for my soon-to-be brother-in-law, who met Carter Beauford, who told him to follow his dreams and never give up. You see, my brother-in-law was in HS and a drummer. He now is the drummer for M-LAB, a band making waves in NYC. Started delivering pizzas for Papa John's in order to pay off my mounting debt (~$15k - not including student loans, just credit cards). Paid them off within a year with tip money and have never owed a balance on one again. Ended up twice delivering pizzas to Carter Beauford, who tipped me over 100% each time and invited me in to chat as well. Great guy!
Musical influences:
The Samples "Outpost" - Their final attempt at a major label, MCA this time, but the company was sold and restructured after their signing, so the people who signed them and were vested in their success were gone. They got no support from the label on this effort and it was shame.
Alaskan "Red Wheel Spinning"
Beck "Odelay"
Beastie Boys "The In Sound From Way Out"
Electronic "Raise The Pressure"
The Gufs "The Gufs"
Hazard "Science Fiction" - Solo effort from bassist Any Sheldon of The Samples.
Jeep "With A Fist" - Solo effort from drummer Jeep MacNichol of The Samples.
Luscious Jackson "Fever In Fever Out"
Nerf Herder "Nerf Herder" - Stuck up and half-witted.
R.E.M. "New Adventures In Hi-Fi"
Rage Against The Machine "Evil Empire"
The Refreshments "Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy" - Cool guys. Met them when they opened for Seven Mary Three in Norfolk.
Social Distortion "White Light White Heat White Trash"
Stir "Stir" - Met them while touring with The Samples. They were fun to hang out with during soundchecks.
They Might Be Giants "Factory Showroom"
Tool "Ænima"
The Tragically Hip "Trouble At The Henhouse"

I confess... I have a most ridiculous looking pink sunburn streak across my forehead right now. We had some teambuliding geotracking exercise at work today. T'was not unfun; met some interesting people; my team came in 3rd place out of about 10, even thought I was more focused on enjoying the day than winning. [Though I spared no opportunity to taunt opposing teams, and was "accused" of being "cocky" more than once.]
At the beginning of the exerscise, we were all given coloured bandanas to wear. My team's was yelllow [a colour I HATE by the way]. But, whatever; I ran with it. I was the only one among my team to tie the bandana over my head. The exercise involved a lot of trekking around downtown Seattle on a very SUNNY day. Near when we started, I coated myself nicely with sunscreen, including my face and foreheadh. BUT, during the day of running around, my bandana slipped back about half an inch... Exposing an area NOT covered by sunscreen. I just looked in the mirror, and I have a neatly defined half-inch stripe across my forehead that is sunburn pink. I look like a damn fool...
Tomorrow, I'm going to track down my boss's boss's boss [the guy who sponsored this morale event], and "thank" him for the nice pink stripe.
I've got a rather important cross-team meeting tommorrow afternoon with a bunch of people I've never met. I'm sooo looking forward to showing up and impressing them with the ridiculous-looking 1/2 inch pink sunburn stripe right acros my forehead.
I confess, I really don't give a damn.
Good fortune,
- Icarus, the town fool

Post #2004:
The year 2004 will live in my memory forever. A life long dream was realized when the Red Sox won the World Series. I had won the lottery for ALCS tickets and this year passed them up to save for the World Series. I knew we were going. We had to! When we went down 0-3 in the ALCS, I turned my hat inside out and started wearing it in "rally mode". I was telling everyone, this is how it has to happen. We have to come back from down 0-3 to beat them <bleepholes>. People thought I was crazy. Then, the miracle steal in Game 4 and we were on our way. Another comeback in Game 5 and you could feel it. The tight one in Game 6 and now it had to happen. The Game 7 blowout and a lifetime of "1918" was lifted. I got tickets for Games 1 and 2 of the Word Series at Fenway Park and it was a dream come true. When I entered Fenway Park it was surreal. Everyone kept asking why my hat was inside out and in "rally mode". I explained when I switched it, and every Red Sox fan understood and emphasized, "Do not switch it back!" We are a crazy bunch. Oh yeah, the New England Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVIII on their way to a record winning streak. Funny how that was an afterthought.
Music from 2004:
Andy Sheldon "A Coup Sticks" - Former bassist for The Samples releases a solo album. If you never thought anyone could sound like Neil Young, well...you are wrong. A beautiful compilation.
Beastie Boys "To The 5 Boroughs" - Now we get into the political bashing of one of the most hated men I have ever despised. This is one of many great albums to come bashing this idiot. A very deep album as well, mixing old school with modern Hip-Hop.
Dane Cook "Harmful If Swallowed" - A laugh riot from a Boston native.
Dropkick Murphys "Tessie" - Old early 1900's song rewritten and recorded to pay tribute to the Red Sox. They first played it live at Fenway Park on 25 July 2004, the day A-Rod tried to go after Arroyo and Varitek shoved his glove in his face. That game was credited for turning the Red Sox season around. I was there. They later made a shirt with the picture of Varitek shoving his glove in A-Rod's mug that said, "No Glove, No Love!" After the game, I bought a shirt from some vendors that said, "Boston - 2004 World Series Champions!" The idea was you had to jinx a curse to break a curse. I wore that shirt the next few months and then had a picture of me taken at the World Series with it on. Ironically, I ran into the kids who made the shirts at Camden Yards the final series of the year when all of the Red Sox fans were sending off their boys into the playoffs. They told me they had to pay a fine when they got caught selling them. They thought it was cool I was wearing it and we all just had that feeling it was our year.
Good Charlotte "The Chronicles Of Life And Death"
Green Day "American Idiot" - Bash bash bash. This one helps me deal with the current foreign policies of this country and the demise of civil liberties and equal rights.
Guster "Guster On Ice - Live From Portland, Maine"
Helmet "Size Matters"
M-Lab "From Baser Elements" - Shameless plug for my brother-in-law's band.
Ministry "Houses Of The Molé" - The bashing continues, industrial style.
Nirvana "With The Lights Out"
A Perfect Circle "eMOTIVe" - More poignant bashing.
R.E.M. "Around The Sun" - Truly one of the greatest shows I ever went to at DAR Constitution Hall down the street from the White House the day before the election. I mooned the White House on the walk over and yelled, "<Bleep> You Bush!" The show was full of energy and it felt like we were going to change the world that night. I even got to sing in the mic during 'It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)' courtesy of front row seats from the Fan Club. At one point, Michael Stipe even recognized the <Bleep> Bush sticker I had taped to my hat. Then reality set in the next day when Gay Bashers and the corruption in Ohio stole the election.
The Samples "Black And White"
The Samples "Live In Colorado"
The Samples "Very Best Of The Samples" - W.A.R.? finally releases the old material, including some videos.
Seven Mary Three "Dis/Location" - Back on track...a great album.
Social Distortion "Sex, Love, And Rock 'N' Roll"
They Might Be Giants "Indestructible Object"
They Might Be Giants "The Spine"
U2 "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" - By now, these guys are timeless.

I confess I hate mowing my stepdad's yard and all the other housework for nothing. When I was collecting social security, I never saw any of that money because my stepdad paid off his child support with my money. Since his need to pay child support has ended my sister doesn't need to give him the money anymore, so she still has a fair amount of money, but he still treats that money as his and requires her to spend it on whatever he says. Since I'm past nineteen I don't get anymore of the survivor's benefits, but I have nothing since my stepdad spent it all and I get nothing even though I work hard. He says my payment is that I have a free place to live, but he also says that at any moment he can change his mind and I'm back on the street.
