Hi

1. our winters arent very cold (although it has been raining a bit recently)

2. You are much more likely to come across a drought than a tsunami. If you want more mild weather I'd try heading below queensland. In queensland there are a lot of cyclones and I have also heard of floods, Also (apparently- i've only been up there once for 3 weeks) it is much hotter there than it is in the more southern areas of australia.

3. Tell me what you want to know about Australia, because I could just be typing out the things you already know or don't want to know. Also, I am a bit bias in my opinions, so for some things it really depends on what you prefer. Also your age would play a huge part, and where ever it is that you plan on (maybe) moving to.

I like Australia, but honestly don't think it's the place for me. I prefer cold weather, less bugs, less crocodiles, snakes, spiders, sharks and everything else that fits into that category.

Well tell me more about you and why you are thinking of moving to Australia, I can give you an honest opinion.. I'm too tired now though :coffee:

In the QLD highlands, check the bom.gov.au (weather bureau) site for maybe Toowoomba or wherever appeals to you. Generally QLD is a humid heat in summer, like tropical heat (especially on the coast), so winters are often mild, can be the best time of the year. It's just that I hate that sort of summer heat, so it's actually my preference to go for the highland areas, not necessarily yours, so...

What state do you live in in the US? What sort of weather do you like/hate?

for weather details, I like www.eldersweather.com.au

Elders is a site for farmers. At eldersweather you type in the name of the town you are interested in and it shows 7 day forecast, 12 mth averages compared to 100 yr averages. Also has 28d rainfall outlook.

Here's (one of) parakeet's manifestos, for latecomers to the discussion

iamnotaparakeet wrote:
Partially it is because I own 4 Australian birds and notice that they have a type of language amongst themselves (including words and phrases like we-ough-wheat, wheat-woo, whurp, zer-we, per-we, certain echo calls for retrieving a separated member, as well as mating calls where the male sings the first part of the Mexican hat dance (sounds like it anyway) and the female chortles. Also sometimes they do a morning song led by the budgies.) I would like to study the cockatiels in their native environment and see if their language is the same or different. If it is different then there language is learned. If it is the same or with minor variation, then it is preprogrammed in their genetic code possibly included in what is sometimes called "junk DNA".

Other reasons I want to go there would include how hostile America is becoming to Christianity, warmer weather, better form of government, better tax laws I'm now hearing, I like the Australian accent, I don't mind flies and there are MANY in Texas where I used to live (now MOSQUITOES here in Minnesota), looks like a better situation on unemployment than here in America, after I get an Associates here (so I would be more able to immigrate) I could advance my education there and I here you guys have a better educational system in terms of the hard sciences (chemistry and physics, which are my interests although I want to work as an Electronics Technician and maybe later as an Electrical Engineer.)

The above "manifesto" tells a bit. Also I'm a conservative Christian Evangelical, YEC and would hold to CMI's statement of beliefs primarily and Wayne Grudem's theology secondarily. My age is 22 right now, but I will be 24 after college and who knows how old after I'm through paying for college. I would plan on moving to the Brisbane area.

I live in southern Minnesota 30 miles southwest of Minneapolis. I like sunshine and rain, I hate slipping on ice.

Cool.

BTW, what would some good job search sites be?

I'm thinking about studying chemistry now (I have taken two years of high school level Chem and did well at it, whereas I've now taken two middle school level courses in electronics and am annoyed by the poor treatment of the mathematics of the subject.) Two questions I have: 1) should I study here or there? and 2) what's a good school in Australia for Chemistry?

u can study here, some people use it as a path to permanent residency. as for which school to go to there are plenty of good ones to choose from depending on which state u will go to.
eg University of Sydney in NSW
Monash University in Victoria

www.vtac.edu.au
go to the above site for info.
