Come across reference to something if that nature going on in the US: is it possible that some Brits have read about American policies online and assumed the NHS will follow suit?

they mighta sniffed out the fact that trump has tried to persuade boris to move to privatize the NHS.

That’s been public knowledge for well over a year, I’m actually not that worried about it coming to pass: Boris is too ambitious to risk his career by destroying our most popular and respected national institution.
Plus he seems to have responded to a crisis as the conservatives here often do: he’s caught the commie-wobbles.

I know :D It's some upper class instinct that warns them the moment we start oiling the guillotines and they reverse smoother than Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk. It must be something taught by Nanny.

Well, the British aristocracy haven’t survived into the 21st century by having no sense of self preservation.
(Although if they privatise any more stuff we might have to chop one or two heads off, just to remind them of their place  )

Edit: just seen in the Guardian online that the head of Eton has emailed the heads of all the state secondary schools offering their pupils free access to Eton’s online courses.
I suspect cynical self-preservation is afoot, but regardless: nice to see that institution acting in a manner somewhat similar to that which Henry III intended when he founded it.

In non corona news, I have a load of seeds, soil and pots lined up, the grass is cut and I spent about 2 hours tidying up the top of an apple tree today.

^What seeds have you got?
Pruning fruit trees is very satisfying isn’t it?

We’re eagerly watching our tulips and evergreen clematis bringing their buds forth at the moment: think we should have flowers open within the next ten days or so.

My garden was looking very neglected till this last week off work. For the first time my lawn is mowed ahead of my neighbours. I got it done Thurs, and the front is 80% weeded :D If this continues I may even end up cleaning the house.

Interesting that it has emerged the Government ran 3 day a pandemic test, named Operation Cygnus, in October 2016 to test how our health care system would cope and were told it would result in a shortage of critical care beds, shortage of respirators ,morgue capacity and a shortage personal protective equipment (PPE) all resulting in the NHS being overwhelmed very quickly.

It was decided that these results left the test too sensitive to be published and so it was never revealed that this was undertaken.

Yet the NHS continued to be further underfunded.

Everyday we hear stories of frontline NHS staff crying out for PPE and still it is not being provided. Why only 2 weeks ago did the Govt start asking people to make respirators? Why are we so far behind on testing?

and instead of investing in upping our preparedness infrastructure along with the other kind, we decided instead to give away tax cuts to rich people.

Ventilator bulk buy purchasing scheme launched by the EU was open to all EU & EEA members and was also offered to the UK.

7 days ago when asked why we were not opting to be part of this the PM's spokeman was reported to have said 'because we are not in the EU'

6 days ago, after that got lots of attention, a new statement was issued to say we were not involved in it as we didn't receive the invitation in time

6 days ago Matt Hancock was shown to have said on BBCQT on 19th March that we have been invited and are engaging with the EU on that

4 days ago Michael Gove said that we chose not to be part of the scheme as 'there is nothing in it that we cannot do outside of the EU'

3 days before the EU ventilator purchasing scheme closed the PM launched his appeal for British business to build ventilators

Having said the the UK needs 30,000 additional ventilators, the govt said 2 days ago that the first delivery 'of thousands' of the new British built ventilators will arrive next week. Having been pushed on the numbers more they have admitted that the first delivery next week is expected to be for just 30
