thank you, that's a great compliment. i consider myself something of a untrained photographer i guess (i used to sell prints of abstractions and other oddities online).
i also photograph other people for fun and i've practiced posing - i watched all of the Next Top Model Series from US, Canada, Britain, Australia, Germany, Holland, China, and Brasil (with no subtitles, even - fashion was my special interest for a while). it STILL takes about 50 shots to get 5 good ones, as i am not naturally photogenic.
i also have a good camera. for these two i was using an Olympus PEN E-PL1, and in one you can see my arm stretched out holding the camera:
these two are from an older, cheaper Fuji Finepix:
no professionals present, i swear!

Don't worry, this seems to be true for most photographers and people being photographed.

Many people say I look like a pre-teen or something. Like the comment about me looking "precious" a few pages back, for example.
