for some reason Anubis's forces ate pie and converted to the pieist movement.

...his forces were much more efficient and much more powerful... Anubis was posing as the God of Pie to the pieists. Anubis loves pie.

Some people wanted to eat cake and they got hanged for it at the gallows. After that many pieist's left to form their own religion that encouraged the right to eat whatever dessert you wanted to eat.
