Okay, I'll start this off by saying, please, nobody take this as a personal attack or an insult or anything of a related nature, because it certainly is not meant to be. Now, I try to be tolerant and understanding, but I just don't understand people who think that having a romantic relationship is all there is to life, that it will instantly make them perfectly happy and solve most, if not all, their problems, and if they don't end up in a relationship, they'll always be completely miserable. It's just such an alien concept to me, I can't wrap my brain around it. I want to be encouraging and helpful to people whenever I can, but I just don't know where to even begin in trying to do so with these situations, because it's so very opposite to my own feelings, as a nonromantic asexual. Then I end up feeling bad because I can't do anything to help so it looks like I don't care, and I also start wondering what's wrong with me so that I have absolutely no desire for this thing called romance. The passing on of one's genes in the form of offspring is supposed to be a biological impulse for all living things - so why don't I have it?
And now I'm just rambling - time to stop.
I understand how you feel, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. I feel like an outsider most of the time, too. My experiences have been unconventional at best and I'm quite jaded in the dating department. I'm a very independent woman and I can't stand women (or men) nattering that they need another person to make them complete, or to help them do things day to day. I find that frustrating. It may be depression on my part, but it's an inherent part of who I am.
