those cars really are candy to the eyes, chic and classic, more personality than these blocky modern ones, although i was FAR from being around back in their heyday.

Yes, it used to be that cars could both swim and fly. The producers got the idea from a Norwegian fairytale about Askeladden where he obtained a ship that could move as well on land as at sea and in the air as well, to translate-quote from the fairytale.
Those swimming and flying cars were on the way out when I was little and we aren't really supposed to talk to you young'uns about them.

But seriously, how beautiful is this?

Hi Syl, according to Wikipedia there seem to be around 40 of them in existence, although black ones are really scarce. Francis Ford Coppola has a Tucker and so does George Lucas.
