We got a few inches of snow yesterday evening/night, but then it turned into ice and rain. It was all nice and fluffy last night, but this morning it was crunchy and hard to maneuver through (especially for my dog. Poor baby. But I pick her up so she doesn't have to be on it too much). Also, the parking lot of my apartment looked like a skating rink, so I didn't even take a single step out there. (now it's a slushy mess, but will likely freeze overnight)

Wonder how much snow we would have gotten if it hadn't turned to ice and rain.

I'm freezing me
I'm literally blowing into my cupped hands and I'm sat in my living room
All I have to do is get out of my chair and turn the heating on but I'm frozen to the spot

With a typical 10:1 ratio of snow to water we would have had 17 inches of snow had it not changed to ice and rain.

4 inches of snow fell yesterday but my wife and I raced outside and cleared off the snow from the driveway. It took the morning. And now the cold has come. The temperatures this morning fell down to 7.2 degrees F ( -13.8 degrees C).

First thing this morning, I went outside and used the last of my bird seed to feed the birds. They have a hard time surviving when all the ground is covered in snow. I saw a woodpecker come and eat some of the food. They are a great bird. They are unique. They can kill insects that hide inside the dead parts of trees.

Bit of a snowstorm here today, but so far it's not very deep and some vehicles are still moving out there. Walking may be precarious though. Temperature could drop as low as 3F on Thursday night / Friday morning, and daytime temperatures are going to be below freezing point for a few days.

Air conditioning systems based on heat pumps tend to struggle when the outdoor temperature is as low as that, and some could conk out especially if the thermostat is set to anything like comfortable. This is a job for supplementary heating.

Walmart's grocery supplies were depleted yesterday. Panic buying, understandably.

Yeah. The larger the difference between the source temperature and the target temperature, the larger the issue.

That's one reason why geothermal heat pumps can be a big help. If the heat source is in the 60s and the target temperature is in the 70s or 80s, it is so much more efficient.

We used to have a gas straight from the wellhead since they drilled the well. No charge, but we naturally didn't receive royalties on what we used.

Unfortunately, the gas company shut it off due to made up concerns about H2S -- the H2S levels from the well were not close to the danger levels. Also, we had a scrubber on it to remove what H2S was in there.

Seems like we can't get a decent snowstorm here in Pennsylvania if our lives depended on it! Yes I'm a snow lover. Not obsessed, but I could watch it fall gently all day. I know it can cause havoc with transportation etc. And I'm not fond of bitter cold (temperatures have been rather nippy for sure ). But all these snowy weather systems the past several weeks have either gone north, south, every direction but over us. Including the current one which is going to hit North Carolina and Virginia. And last month folks in New Orleans, Houston, and Pensacola Florida we shoveling (if they have them) instead of sunbathing. Unreal. We are way overdue for a decent nor'easter type storm. Now as the weather patterns calm down, looks like the windows of opportunity are closing
