It also depends on what race your character is. Bretons do pretty well against dragon priests.

I didn't expect the dragon to pick me up in its mouth and throw me...
Also, I feel as though the fire spell isn't damaging the fire dragon much

I kind of wish I had my tablet back now. My mom took it away from me because I was drawing too much on it.

Stop using spells and pick up a bow and some arrows. Once you learn Dragonrend you can attack them like you normally do.
