I once "sort of" dated a woman who wanted to be a "butch" lesbian (though she didn't quite succeed at that).


1. She lived in Briarwood, Queens.

2. She lived in Jackson Heights, Queens.

3. She worked at Lincoln Center.

She actually lived in Jackson Heights. She actually worked at Lincoln Center (until she lost the job).

I lived in Briarwood, Queens three times. The first time was with my mother. The second time was about two years afterwards; it was my first independent apartment. The last time I stayed for 20 years.

1. I had a crush on my "best friend"'s boyfriend when I was 13 (after Sean).

2. I think the guy really liked me, too. We spent a lot of time together but didn't know what to do because he was dating my friend.

3. I phoned him a few years later from LA, and he didn't remember who I was.

1 is true. I met her late 2002, and things eventually fell apart back in '06 after I said some things rather than go up to her and talk it out (an option that I should've taken, but didn't because I didn't like the idea of starting conflict even though essentially that's what I did in the end...). I spent all of '07 a mess, and because I wouldn't mention anything, it came across as me being lazy so I was snapped at a few times.

3 is actually true. It's the whole reason I couldn't really go to anyone because of the whole stigma against any sort of connection that is rooted online. So no matter what I felt, I had to swallow it and hope to God that no one noticed.

2 is my lie, it ran from 2009 to 2014, totaling 5 years, not 6.

I'm sorry to hear that, Potato. Communication and conflict aren't my strong suit, either.

1. I pass his house occasionally, and look at the annex where we used to hang out alone

2. The first time I saw a microwave oven was in his house. It had a dial rather than buttons.

3. He bought me a Smurf for my 15th birthday and smurfs still remind me of him.

Nope, 3 is my lie.

1 and 2 are true. His was the first microwave I saw, and I think it was around 1982. It had a giant dial.

3 is my lie. I didn't know him (or anyone) by the time I was 15. I was hiding in libraries by then. He gave me a Smurf when I turned 14 and I dropped off the planet shortly thereafter.

I think they all had dials then.

There was a microwave in the break room when I worked with the Yellow Pages in 1980.

My turn:

1.) From 2008 to about 2011, I had a habit of attending free advanced screenings, sometimes having chance encounters with the stars of whatever movies were being screened.

2.) At a free advanced screening of Inglorious Bastards in 2009 in Portland, I had a chance encounter with Brad Pitt. I was expecting him to be an absolute jerk, but he was very much the opposite. Two years later at a free advanced screening of Moneyball in Portland, I had another chance encounter with Brad Pitt. He recognized me and addressed me by name.

3.) At a free advanced screening of the Clint Eastwood film called Invictus in Portland in 2011 that I attended with my mom, we had a chance encounter with Matt Damon. My mom couldn't control her excitement and accidentally addressed as "Mister Demon."

I will also admit that I am glad I no longer go to free advanced movie screenings anymore. I'm too busy and I don't have time for them.
