You come to me to ask for a “friendly favor”, forgetting completely that you turned me down when I needed a place to stay. The streets were not so bad, I suppose . . . after all, I did survive . . . no thanks to you.
Had you extended a favor to me when I needed one, I would be obligated to extend a favor to you now; but that is not going to happen.
I have maintained a friend-like facade with you for 35 years, and only for the sake of appearances — people at our level of employment must appear to be diplomatic, after all . . . at least, that is what you told me just before quietly closing the door on our friendship.
So, “old friend”, you will just have to take your chances. Those people will eventually find you, and they will extract payment from you, one way or another.
Let us hope they do not find your wife and kids, as well.
