Good night!

Well they're probably paying off debt and trying to save money. It's funny that they "care" about our education so much yet they'll be so willing to slash it.

Liam: Because of budget cuts, there are less and less days of school, my junior high no longer has a Science Honors class, my elementary school no longer takes their students to Science Camp and the Gifted and Talented program is just... not very good... and so forth. *sigh*

Jamie: Ah. I see.

I wonder how college applications are going to be like over there then.

Oh god I hate private schools! But mostly because I'm a socialist....

Liam: I think the education system in China, at least in mainland China, is nowhere near as good as the US. They don't emphasize creativity at all, and everything consists of sitting at a desk doing boring, tedious work. Everything focuses on acing the test at the end of high school (gao kao), the score of which is the sole factor in determining which college the student gets into. Also, in China they don't emphasize independence, so parents tend to follow their kids everywhere in order to do stuff for them like cook and do their laundry. We are babied to no end, and as a result we don't have any freedom. Also, most students in China don't have a clue as to what they want to do later in life, which is caused by the iron-hard, inflexible curriculum of the Chinese school system (everyone must take the same classes, for God's sake). As a result, the Asian student stereotype emerges.

Sempy: I want to be a doctor, but that is of my own accord. My parents actually wanted me to be an engineer, but that was only a suggestion, and they didn't force it on me.

I actually used to be in a private school when I was little...

I also want to go be a doctor.
I don't think my parents are forcing it on me either. It was more than a suggestion, but I'm pretty sure they won't be mad if I wanted to go into something else besides medicine.

I'm upset because th US is trying to become that. They just care about test scores at this point.

I doubt it would become as bad as China's system, though.

I want to be a doctor too! Medicine is one of my special interests.
And yes I studied in private schools K-9
I heard about mainland kids. Luckily Taiwan isn't that extreme.

Medicine isn't my special interest, but it is interesting, and abnormal psychology happens to be a special interest, so

It's a good thing Taiwan isn't then.

The parents can be very obsessive like the mainlanders.

When you say "mainlanders" it reminds me of how Hawaiins call mainland US citizens.
