Agreed. You should hear the types of nightmares I have now -- it's incredible what the mind can do. :?

mebbe post more of 'em on the various "weirdest dream you had" threads?

I take anti-nightmare meds now, but I still have a few occasionally. I just found this thread so I'll update when I have something to share (good, bad or indifferent).

I dreamt I was in an old army barracks, circa the 1960s, in the latrine [restrooms in army talk], it was painted white, shiny white, and there were no stall dividers as was the case back in the day, just a row of white toilets. I did my business in one of them at the near end away from the wall with large vertical windows on it. I got up, grabbed a large bag of Lay's Potato Chips, opened it, dumped half into the bowl I just piddled in, then tried to barely press the flush lever just enough to wash away the pee but not the chips, but they all slowly went down anyways, and I wondered to myself, "why did I just do this stooooopid thing?!" then 2 other recruits walked in, one tall guy who inspected the other toilets, and one short guy who was apparently a squad leader who told me, "leave that toilet alone, we need to inspect it."

Most of my dreams lately have been fairly normal, but I had a strange one last night.

I dreamed I was writing software at a software company and was one of their more prolific producers. Then one day during lunch, I'm walking through the nearby mall and see an old man about 75 or 80 attacking a young woman. He was demanding that she go with him and was trying to pull her clothes off in the mall. Everyone else was ignoring them.

So I intervened and punched him a few times. While I'm checking on the woman, he goes and gets a big stick and comes back and takes a swat at me. I took the stick away and hit him with it hard a few times. A few minutes later, he's back with a new box containing a handgun which he starts to pull out. I realize what it is and beat the crap out of the old man leaving him on the ground.

When I get back to the office, I'm fired. It turns out that the owner of the company saw the whole thing and is afraid of being sued by the old man.

The next morning, I forgot that I was fired and went to the office. Everyone wanted to hear about what happened and so I spend the day talking to people and describing what happened.

I forget about being fired the next morning and go in again. The owner of the company has cooled down a little and wants me to discuss all my code and the issues that were remaining with my replacement. That takes a couple of days. The owner tells me to come in the next day and they'll pay me for that week after I had been fired.

So the next morning, I come in again. Now the old man is suing the company as well as me. So I spend the next few days talking to the company's lawyers so that they can defend the company in the lawsuit.

^^^that dream seems non-symbolic to me, IOW it seems to be a dreamy pastiche of things you experienced in some form in waking life.

That's "Our Lady of Guadalupe". A vision of Mary seen by a guy in early Mexico soon after the Spaniards conquered the place in the early 1500's. Obviously a Catholic symbol, but that particular rendition of Mary is also a national symbol of Mexico, and of Mexican ethnic identity.

Why you, a WASP Anglo American would be worshipping before her I don't know. Maybe you were a Mexican in a previous incarnation. Maybe your family was in the Mexican Mafia, hence the seeking of forgiveness for your whole family.

I dreamt I was in a small shuttlecraft type of space craft in deep space, the mother ship our shuttle was docked in, crashed into an asteroid-sized bee's nest that was full of these weird zero-gravity type of stinging bees, they were madder than hornets as they flew out from the ruptured asteroid nest en masse, and flew into the vent ducts of the mothership and in no time made their way to the shuttles including the one I was in, and started stinging the bejeez out of everybody, I was in the rear and the bees didn't make it back that far, but I could feel the pain the stings were causing the other crew members up front. in a few minutes they exhausted their fury and flew away, and as I got up from behind a seat I noticed underfoot that one did make it back where I was at, but i'd stepped on it somehow, it was the size of a .223 rifle cartridge, about 2" long and perhaps a half-inch wide, fleshy colored but striped like a bee. then I awoke.

Sounds very interesting! I do believe in reincarnation, so maybe I was? :)

I also think it's possible that I was once a young soldier who was executed by firing squad for cowardice and desertion. I even have four red moles on my chest over my heart area that form a weird perfect cross shape. I think that could mark where I was shot.

I had a series of dreams last night in which everything seemed to go wrong. I don't know why I'm having those dreams, as everything seems to be going well.

I had one of my strangest floating dreams (my most common dream) this morning.

In the dream, I was getting ready to eat lunch in my apartment with my girlfriend (in real life, an old friend of mine years ago but never a girlfriend) when she found a freshly used condom under the table. I grabbed it and disposed of it hoping she didn't realize what it was, but it was too late for that.

She sat there and fumed a few minutes and then blew up, said that was the last straw, and left. I calmly finished my lunch and decided that maybe I should see if I could smooth things over and so I left to look for her. She wasn't all that far away, possibly to give me a chance to smooth things over, and mad as hell. I took her hand and we suddenly floated up to the top of the nearest building which was about three floors up.

In my typical floating dream, if there is someone else present, they can float, too, provided that we maintain contact and if the other person is confident about floating. As soon as anyone, myself included, has any doubt, we plummet to the ground. So I know that if I try to float her back to the ground, she will likely be scared and kill us both so I leave her there and go back to my apartment to watch the football game. Eventually, someone notices her on top of the building and calls the police and they come and get her down.

Gosh! Angry bees and hornets enter your dreams often it seems.

What, do you suppose, do angry bees mean to you?

having to constantly be vigilant around bossy bullying censorious hasslesome jerkatoids hidden in the woodwork and unexpectedly oozing out at unpredictable times. can't even escape the bastards in outer space! actually I am apiphobic [fearful of getting stung by the little striped buzztards]. ;) dream dictionary says they are symbolic of hard work. I hate hard work. :| but I do it, at least in the audio realm.

Where I live, cockroaches are nearly unknown. I've been told that there are one or two houses in the county with cockroach problems, but I've never seen them. We have plenty of other insects, but nothing as miserable as cockroaches.

So this morning, I had a dream with a sub dream that repeated three times. In part of the dream, I received a package at the office by FedEx or UPS that was making some funny noises. When I opened the box, thousands of cockroaches came scurrying out and all over the office. I tried dousing everything in poison, but by then the cockroaches were already safely hidden.

So that part of the dream repeated. This time when I heard the funny noises from the box I knew what it was and was going to take I somewhere hundreds of miles away to open, but someone else saw the package and said "Let me help you with that" and opened it. There were cockroaches all over again and I was pouring insecticide everywhere to try to kill them.

Then it repeated a third time. This time when the guy said "Let me help you with that", I shouted "NO" and grabbed the package, took it outside, and poured gallons of insecticide all over the package killing every cockroach inside.

The rest of the dream was pretty hum drum.
