I finally did something in church this morning that I haven’t been able to do in over 2 years, no thanks to COVID: solo work. I dug out an oldie, but goodie for Palm Sunday: David Merbick’s (the actual name of Scott Adams) The Holy City. I even caught the pastor (who is on supply from the Southeast District of LCMS (his current assignment is the LCMS congregation in Walkersville, MD)) singing along. Yeah, there were a couple minor rough spots, mostly because of diabetic retinopathy, I couldn’t make out the text. (The publication was also a very old Boosey and Hawkes edition, which I was using a photocopy, and the engraving wasn’t exactly the best. Yes, I know I should have my eyes checked every year, but, when it costs me almost a grand for a new prescription, which I didn’t have and Medicare doesn’t pay for, even with Medicare Advantage until very recently, it’s either go homeless or go hungry or both.
Next: I’m singing again on Maundy Thursday, performing the Agnus Dei by Georges Bizet, which is in fact the Intermezzo from his L’Arlesienne Suite.
