Here is a rare and little-known fact:

When approaching an intersection, the vehicle arriving first has the right-of-way. When two or more vehicles arrive at the intersection simultaneously, the vehicles proceed to take turns in a clockwise fashion!! !! Get it!!??**! !!??*

Did you know that in the year 2000, the University of Washington determined that the earth weighed 5.172 sextillion metric tons. That's a LOT!

Did you also know that the inventor of the skateboard's middle name was Ollie? I think that his full name is Gerald Ollie Wilson or something like that.

The m-16a1 and the m-16a2 differ in one major wway:
the a1 was able to be on a "fully automatic" mode
the a2 has a "3 round burst" to replace the fully automatic mode of the a1
I never liked the a2 for that very reason.....

NASA does not have an ROTC program, but the army, airforce, coast gaurd, navy and marines do.... ROTC stands for "reserve Officer Training Corps" and is in many colleges. The J in the front denotes "junior" and is found in many high schools across the country.

Our smoke detectors don't have batteries. They are hardwired.

MOST somkedetectors that are "hardwired" have a battery for back up in case of power failure. If not, you should have a battery operated smoke detector in the sleeping areas of the house (and one on each floor anyhow) in case of fire when the power is out. You STILL should check the detectors every month to ensure they are functing properly and if not you should place a battery back up next to it at once and make arrangements for the hardwired detector to be replaced

Smoke detectors that are over 10 years old should be disposed of and replaced.

Smoke detectors that have been in a fire (one enough to call the FD for) should be replaced or serviced by your alarm company.

You should have a smoke detector on EVERY floor of your house, and in every bedroom/Sleeping area. They should be tested every month.

Change the batteries in your smoke alarms every 6 months (change the clocks change the batteries) even if they dont "need" it. This is to ensure you have a fresh battery.

The batteries you take from the smoke detector (when replacing every 6 months) should be kept seperate from the fresh batteries (so as not to put it back in 6 months) and can be used for TV remotes, toys, etc. BUT if you have kids dont let them know you "reuse" those batteries because many kids will "borrow" the batteries for a toy especally if they see an adult do it.

the 9-volt batteries that you dispose of in any case should be placed INDIVIDUALLY into plastic bags and then tossed into your garbage. Some times folks forget and toss them unwrapped and the two prongs connect with a bit of tin or what ever in the trash and cause enough heat from the battery to start a fire. (yes this has happened). So wrap them in plastic bags or wrap enough to ensure the prongs are covered to avoid this.

MOST HOUSEFIRE FATALITIES occor in dwelligs where the smoke detector was not working or was not present!! !! !! ! Those that were not working almost everysingle time had dead or missing batteries. Of those that were missing batteries, the investigators later find that someone took them in order to power something else, or they removed them while cooking and forgot to put them back.

The current in a standard battery cell flows from negative to positive.
