I hear you on the heated and repetitive threads though. When it gets like that, I often stay away from those sections until I feel up to it again. Although sometimes it's purely because I see nothing interesting going on in a particular section either. Either way, as a Mod, I imagine it's much worse for you.
Most of the members here don't bite and introductions are usually brief like yours, it's more about involvement than anything.
