I'm agnostic. I think there is a possibility of a supernatural deity, just not a probability.

Really, though, at this point in my life I just don't like to think about it, since thinking about it in too much depth (as my mind tends to do with complex philosophical, spiritual and ethical issues, even if I don't want it to) inevitably does nothing but trouble me.

This is a poll---a vote---I have voted and defended my stance on religion. That's all I can do.

Very well, I suppose I'll have to get used to this. I meant no harm, I'm simply curious.

I understand where you are coming from. Before I got saved, I was not very religious. I got asked to play keyboards in a southern gospel quartet. I accepted. We travelled around on a big converted bus. It was pretty cool. We had a living room up front with television, a sleeping area (bunks), a bathroom, and a kitchen with dining area. It was quite comfortable and neat. But something was missing. I began getting a bit troubled myself as I kept hearing preachers preach the gospel. For me, this was what is called conviction. I was under conviction. One evening we were performing at a small country church in Kentucky. Before we began playing, I kept feeling this kind of tug for me to go to the altar, but I didn't go. Then, we began playing. In the middle of a song, I leapt from my keyboards and went to the altar---I moved very fast---I couldn't stand it any longer---I had to go---I wanted to go. And there, I met the Lord. Well...that is how it happened with me.

Your post reminded me of that since I can relate to the troubled thing. Everyone is entitled to opinions, and I can say I am happy that you acknowledge the possibility of the existence of a deity. But religion is a personal thing---and you will do what you need to do.

I apologize. Perhaps I have misinterpreted your intentions. I do that often. Let's start again and accept each other's diversity.

Ok...I will begin:

*I believe that Heaven and hell exists---though I do admit I wish hell didn't exist based on what the Bible says. I fear this because I sometimes question if my faith is as strong as it should be. I admit this. As Aspies, we are truth seekers---and we do like proof. So religion becomes extremely faith based.

*I believe that once one accepts Christ as their personal savior, then they will be judged and enter Heaven. The judging thing confuses me because if you give your life to Christ, then you have given your life to Christ---what is to judge? I do admit Lecks to the confusion and often times hard to interpret passages in the Bible. If one does not give their life to Christ, they will go to hell. So Heaven and hell exist. But for the Christian (and I think this is where we got mixed up) then hell is taken away since the soul will go to Heaven. But, hell also exists for those who chose not to accept Christ. Just because I am a Christian would not make hell go away for everyone who chooses not to become a Christian.

I hope that makes sense---let me know.

Thanks for clearing that up. Well, I'm still unable to understand religion, more specifically why some people seem to need it, but I won't pester you with any more questions as it's a personal topic for you.

Talk to me all you want. I understand you now---I think I had a troubled day or something and was a bit edgy. I want you to ask me questions. I must be honest, earlier when I was eating pizza with my family, I kept thinking about the posts---like did I misinterpret you?---and now I know I did. I have to admit to you---I often have trouble with my faith---so don't think I am a perfect Christian because I am not. As an AS person, I wish there was absolute proof. I often feel that the further away we get from the time of Christ, the stronger faith has to become. Look at the disciples---they were there during the rising of Christ from the dead. They saw him in spiritual form. But we do not have that privilidge today---we must go on faith.

Please keep in touch.

I take offence to religions that build on the "fear of the unknown" such as threat of hell for those that do not convert; or even worse still, the threat of hell for those who wish they could switch to a different religion or philosophy or renege on the beliefs that was indoctrinated into them. People should never feel guilty about changing their beliefs.

No.

It's worth pointing out that belief is an emotion, so is faith; like many emotions, I lack these two, or they're very blunted in the least and my marked skepticism has taken over.

As for boxes, I'd prefer the term nihilist to atheist for me; my skepticism is for everything (yes, tangible things), not just "god".

Yes I do. A very inspiring lecturer once said that submitting to God is of benefit to you and not to Him. He does not need your good works. But you need Him and this brings about a better feeling of yourself. As humans we are stubborn, proud. But lowering yourself to God, is better for you.

I'm still really far off from being where I want to be in terms of my devotion, but I hope the words above will help me to become better.

Oh yes, what brilliant "design". Clearly set up by an all-knowing, all-powerful, super-benevolent being who gives a crap about people.

Yestereve I wrote a very long text with the purpose to post it here but.... I'm just going to say; no, I do not believe in (a) god. Never did and never will.

bibles cost more than $50 so they better be telling the truth.
i never bought one bought so i have not yet felt ripped off.

i believe in god because if you disassemble the universe, then you arrive at a point that has no length or width or height.

if there was a time when there was nothing at all (which i believe there was), then it would take god to start the universe happening.

if there is nothing anywhere, then there is no chance of cause or effect, so i believe that something deeper started the universe.
i am not religious and i will not talk further about this.

I see posts here reflecting on how God could allow suffering through disasters, illness, etc. if He is supposed to be so loving. Here is an article you might want to read if you are interested in the Bible's take on this. I am not asking for criticism here for I did not write this article---it's just something for you to read, reflect on, and form your own judgment. Religion is one of those things that has caused such heated arguments as to cause a history full of wars. For that reason, I find religion to be a personal thing for me. I am not pushing religion on you---it's just something for you to reflect on. I will not respond to comments, criticisms, or questions on this article. If you want to do that for further comments, please take it up with the website for which it came from. Thank you.

I believe, but I'm not sure if I want to check the first option or the second...I'm kind of leaning towards the second.

I've heard God speak to me before (he told me I wasn't going to die), and I was always expecting a big booming voice and quaking ground...but it was more like when you're dreaming, and there's a person in your dream, and you know who they are, even though you can't see them. I just knew that I wasn't going to die, and I felt absolute peace (really weird that I can say that dying was the most peaceful time in my life), and sure enough, here I am today.

So if I can hear him without actually hearing anything, I would think sight would work the same way. Kind of like how he's represented by a big, blinding light in movies.
