I have never once done anything special or recieved any gifts for my birthday (actually a friend drew me a lovely picture for my birthday once, that was very sweet), so I can't exactly say what I "would" think about it if it had been any sort of signifigant event in my life. But here are some thoughts on the issue:

I certainly like gifts and good food.. but I don't like being the center of attention.

Spontaneous gifts show that someone cares and was thinking about you - gifts on a special day only show that said person felt obligated to buy you one because of the occasion.

A surprise party sounds like my worst nightmare.

No one has ever thrown me a party and no one ever will so if I had been the type of person who expects their birthday to be special, I would have just been let down time after time.

I don't like the passage of time, it makes me sad. I wish everything would just stay the same. A birthday is only another reminder of the passage of time.

I usually don't propagate the fact that my birthday is approaching when it is approaching. If someone discovers I will certainly accept any dinner invitations that I receive, but the center of attention is not one of my favorite hangouts either.

I always end up disapointed by my birthday. My expectations are always high and I end up having a melt down because of all the stress. Plus the people I invite never show up :(

I like my birthday because it is my special day. This year was nice becuase My mom and my daughter came in with donuts and coffee on a tray and sang to me (Mine was on the 1st of March).

The downside is that my sister decided to skip my birthday this year- no call, email, card, nothing. She is mad for some unknown reason. It isn't just my possible Aspergers- my mom doesn't understand either. She got mad at us on Christmas. I sent her a card and a present for her birthday in January even though we had this issue, but I guess she wants to make sure I know she is mad at me.

Oh I'm sorry- no one wanted to hear that probably.

Wow! I'm sorry your sister is mad at you for some reason. While I admit I have issues and get mad at others etc. I will ATLEAST come to the party/gift/sing Happy Birthday because guess what?! My sister/parent/etc. might be dead next year and how would your sister feel then if YOU died! and she didn't come to your last birthday!! !! Hope you can mend things soon. :-)

My birthday is the saddest, loneliest day of the year for me. I am always glad when it is over.

It's just like another day. I would probably feel uncomfortable if someone gave me a card or gift. I don't care to be the center of attention either. I think this year I will buy myself a pair of tall black rubber muck boots and a large black umbrella. :)

Oh, shut up! :P Most people on this forum will gladly help. And we're partially here to listen to problems. What if you go visit her? It's not right for her to be so silent if she's mad. Or leave her a message saying that, that no one has any idea why she's mad, and she's just wasting time ignoring you guys, and you'd like to help or something.

Meh. A birthday's a birthday. My last was my 30th, though, so I wasn't so enthusiastic about that one (I can't really be this old, can I? I don't feel 30 or have any of the things one allegedly "ought to have" at this point (my own house, a steady girlfriend and 2.4 kids. You know what I mean, right?), so how can I possibly have got here so quickly? :( ).
