My first name is "Kyle", from the Scottish meaning "strait" (of water).

My second name is "Bennett", which is (probably) Anglo-Norman (read: French) from the name "Benedict", which is the Latin meaning "blessed".

My surname is "Goss" and is of German derivation, meaning "goose-herd".

Heather
Origin: English
Gender: Female
Meaning: A flowering plant, carefree, outgoing

Not that I fit any of the those meanings, but that's ok. As for my self-given/nickname:

Jack
Origin: English
Gender: Usually male, but there are some expections
Meaning: God is gracious
Also the name of a famous serial killer - "Jack the Ripper" who sent three letters to the police. At least one is fake. (It was after my fascination with these letters that I got the nickname.)

Right, so the middle name then...

Elizabeth
Origin: Hebrew
Gender: Female
Meaning: Consecrated to God

The last name, Baker, is kinda obvious. We used to bake things. It's English too.

My first name, John, denotes honesty. My second, Timothy, suggests intelligence. My grandfathers were both named John. I was the firstborn, and my parents thought that this would be a nice way to smooth relationships between their two families (there weren't any real problems, but they did it anyway). They didn't have any real attachment to the name beyond that, though, so they always called me "Tim," which they liked better. I was only "John Timothy" when I was bad, of course. :P

I always liked Tim better myself, doubly so when I learned the meanings. John I regarded as a handicap at that age!

My screen name, jellynail, is meant to refer to the description of a tricky or difficult task as being "Like nailing jelly to a wall."

Stop press (I wanted to edit my earlier post but not allowed)...I've just found out that my surname, aside from being a Scottish river, also means "young child". How appropriate.

My first name, Erin, comes from the poetic name for Ireland ('Eire'). My middle name is Marie, which means 'bitter sea' in French. My last name comes from an islet off the coast of Sicily, which is presumably where my great-grandfather hailed from (the last full-Italian ancestor I have). It also has a meaning of 'lily-of-the-valley' in Italian, according to my grandfather. So basically, my name commemorates two islands my ancestors came from divided by bitter ocean. Odd (especially considering that at the time my parents knew only the etymology for Erin).

'Sola Catella' just means 'lone female puppy' in Latin.
